I am sponsoring my Iranian common law partner who lives in Canada on a student Visa.

We sent the application in Sept. 2015 and there is still nothing as of correspondence or status online.

Tracking shows it was received but unfortunately we did not get request for signature.

I am getting very worried. What should I do? It says I should not contact them for the expected wait time of a complete applications, which is approx. 2 years. It would be crazy to wait that long to find out they don't have the application and have to start over.

Should I wait longer, or attempt to contact them now? If wait, how long should I wait to see something from them or an update online?

Did you apply inland or outland?

If you applied inland, did you include an open work permit with the application?

Does your partner still have status in Canada (i.e. still attending school full time)?

You should've gotten SA within 60 days. If I was you I would have contacted them long ago.. Did you file inland or outland?

She is currently going to school here, living with me. She still has visa status for school.

We applied inland.

You still have a long way to go to even get SA if you applied inland.

OP applied inland - SA doesn't apply.

First stage processing (AIP) for inland applications is a 16-18 month wait from the time the application was submitted.

Ok, thanks for the replies.

So to get this straight, because she was already here on student visa and we applied with in Canada we are inland and it will take at least 16 months before we see any response, even something online?

You could choose to apply outland even if you are physically in Canada.
But since you applied inland, expect a long time before you hear anything.

First stage approval takes at least 16 months for everyone who applies inland. It has nothing to do with the fact that she's in Canada on a study permit.
