So to save money and time, can Iranians like Mehrdad just come to canada right after they get their visa in Ankara? Or do they have to go back to Iran and get tickets from there to Canada?

Yes, you can come to Ankara and get your visa and then take a flight to Canada if you wish. There is no need to go back to Iran, unless you want to (need more time before coming to Canada, for example).

They can and I think, many will. I just don't know how Turkey's Customs work in this regard. As a new coming PR to Canada you possibly have lots of belongings and considerable cash. Canada allows you, "as a new PR," to take all of this with you to Canada without having to pay any customs fees, as long as you declare all of them. But what happens when you land in Turkey first with all your belongings to stay for a week? Does anybody know?

As far as I'm aware, and the border policy for many countries, is that as long as the items you are bringing with you do not stay in Turkey, (you have an outbound flight and will be taking all those items with you) there is no problem. I doubt the official at passport control in Turkey would question at all what you are bringing into Turkey. They have never asked me or my husband any questions like that.

Thanks SooMazi. Yeah, I think even if they ask, as you said you'll be good to go if you show them your ticket to Canada. So from at least saving money point of view, it always makes sense to directly go to Canada from Turkey.

Farnazzz seems to be last active in the site May 8 with last post Mar 6. Hope her case has been finalized so far (Farnazzz, please confirm if this is so). As for Navid, I noticed he was on the spreadsheet, then disappeared for a while, then returned (or maybe I'm mistaken?)!

My MP requested an update and I was told the application is still going through the security screening!

I chose Malltepe 2000 for hotel, since its relatively cheap (breakfast inclusive) and about 40 mins walk/10 mins ride from embassy.

Needless to say I hope they request my passport as soon as interview is done, cuz its been quite long time by now and I hoped I can watch World Cup with my spouse.

I chose CK FARABI hotel , 14 mins walk . i am sure you will get PPR after your interview

Here I am in Ankara tonight, and right in the beginning of my staying I bought a couple of beers and now I am drunk. I really hope from the bottom of my heart that you guys who are waiting meet your spouses soon: You don't know how things will unbelievably change by the time you meet your loved ones again. Hang in there and keep on tolerating this breath taking pressure. I'll go see what will happen in the VAC tomorrow.

Farnaz, if you think there is anything I can do for you here in Ankara just let me know, I am staying here for three days.

I am heading back to Iran, then I will come to Canada. Ankara is green, and marvelous.
In Iran, that junky drink is disgusting, but here the beer is great and I plan to drink more...
