Hello Guys
I have a question regarding sponsorship application for my wife.

I am a Permanent resident living in Ontario Canada and I was working full time. Covid-19 affected my company and due to economic slowdown I got lay off , so I do not have any job.

I am receiving money from CERB.

My question is
Can I apply for PR for my wife while I am receving CERB or I should wait for job ?

I am asking this question because in the checklist of documents It says that I need to show my income to support my wife and If I am not working they need financial documents which can prove that I can support my wife.

Please give me any advice or suggestion if anyone have idea regarding this matter.

Thank you so much

You can apply if you have enough income/savings to support your spouse.

Yes, you can apply while receiving CERB. You can show what you were earning and a plan of returning to work after the pandemic, along with your spouse's income and income potential, any savings you both have, family assistance etc.

Thank you for reply but as I mentioned above I am not working now and don't have any savings since I was away from work due to medical condition. I was working since 2.5 months and I got lay off.

Thank you so much for your reply. My problem is that my spouse in not working back home and we don't have any savings since I was away from work for 4 months due to medical condition and I have just started working before 2.5 months and got lay off.

Do you think it is safe to go for application or I should wait for job and then I can apply ?

Then perhaps you should wait until you are employed if you won’t be able to support another person and you are on CERB with no savings.

You can apply if you show a solid plan on how you will support yourselves. Is your employer going to rehire you? Get a letter. Will your family give financial support? Get letters.

If it is financial proof from family make sure to include statements showing extra savings.

My employer said they will hire me once business will be normal but I was a temporary employee in a company so I am not sure if they will hire me or not
