Hi there,
I arrived in Canada in August. I hadn't met my R O (as previously posted), was interviewed upon landing and told to report to Immigration Office at a later date (30 days later). I had a formal interview, no Court Hearing, and I've been granted permission to stay.

What I would like to know is if I'd be allowed to sponsor a relation? Or will I have to wait until I have completed my R O ? I have a permanent address, full-time employment with SIN card, Health Insurance, Driving Licence. I cannot apply for a PR card until I've completed 730 days, so I doubt if I'm eligible to be a sponsor yet. Can someone please advise me?
Thanks.

No - you can't sponsor anyone right now since you don't meet the residency obligation. You'll need to wait until you meed the residency obligation.

The problem with applying to sponsor someone when you don't meet the RO yourself is that if you had entered Canada without immigration figuring out that you don't meet the RO, they will find out when you apply to sponsor someone and that may cause them to kick you out if you did not have good grounds for failing to meet the RO.

However, from what you said, they already found out on entry that you don't meet the RO, they called you for an interview and decided that you can stay. That sounds to me that you will not be taking any further risk by applying to sponsor someone right now.

Thanks for your replies Guys. No, I won't be taking any risks because I value my opportunity to stay in Canada too much.
Thanks again. 8)
