AIR CANADA Strike!

Alright, so after almost two years the process finished and my wife is landing in Toronto on Sunday I was going to go pick her up from Edmonton and spend a week in Ontario/Quebec with her, but thanks to Air Canada Staff who have decided to go on a strike starting Wednesday! Seriously? Its so frustrating, for once you think that everything is under control and something else goes wrong. Her flight is booked, my flight from Edmonton to Toronto is booked, holidays from work, hotels, rental car everything is booked and that was the only time Air Canada had to go on strike to ruin our plans. Tickets are non refundable so either I have to rebook or take the credit to use it within a year. If I was in Montreal or Ottawa it wouldn't have been a problem but from Edmonton to Toronto its hard. Either I pay skyhigh prices at westjet (also depends on availibity) or drive to Toronto or just cancel everything and make plans for later only because the AC staff has decided to go on strike. Hopefully by Sunday the issue is resolved or I am never using Air Canada as they have screwed me over several times now.

Any thought whether they will sign the new agreement before Sunday or will it go longer you think? Any inside news from people working for Air Canada would be nice :)

They are going on strike again??? They went on strike during the time I went to visit my husband in Morocco this summer. Everything was settled by the time I came back to Canada. I hope you will have a reply soon from someone who might shed some light on the matter... and I really wish you do this trip with your wife as planned!

It's weird, in the past I saw Westjet prices that were better then those of Air Canada. Otherwise, you could try Porter Airlines to get to Toronto. Porter's airport is even closer to downtown.

Also check newspapers, Porter usually posts promotion codes everywhere!

Air Canada has a motto: "we're not happy until you're not happy."

I'm sorry you've gotten screwed over here... but honestly, I've come to expect it as a normal-course-of-business when dealing with Air Canada.

WestJet is reportedly adding capacity in response to this. I don't know if they're honouring AC tickets, or what...

Also: call Air Canada and tell them you HAD to travel and because THEY could not complete their end of the deal, you were out-of-pocket, and request a full refund. If they refuse, suggest to them that you will be contacting your attorney to pursue this.

Ultimately, they are unable to perform their end of the contract through normal means. Ideally, they'd just give you a ticket with another carrier (at their expense) to get you through. We both know AC won't do that. However, the least they could do is refund your ticket that they are unable to make good on.

Last time the managers worked and served the passengers but they don't have 7000 managers so most of the flights were cancelled.

Ask for a supervisor.

As a last resort, threaten legal action. This was a foreseeable occurrence on their part -- they are intentionally not fulfilling their end of the contract. If you were to take them to court, they'd end up paying a lot more (i.e. your legal expenses, the cost of you to accomplish the same travel on another carrier, and potentially additional damages).

Will do, thanks for your advice and support. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does I would be really sad and will think 10 times before booking an Air Canada flight again...

FYI: http://aircanada.com/en/news/trav_adv/labour_updates.html

"In the event of cancellations due to schedule changes, full refunds would be available."

Hopefully you get to do your trip... but if not, at least you have this consolation.

Thanks and ofcourse I remeber the good things :) its just frustrating when you think that everything is done and now nothing should go wrong and something else blows. Anyways, I am glad the process is done finally and she will have her PR status on Sunday thats when she lands :)
