It was noted on the second post of this thread that VRs are completely invalidated as soon as you leave Canada. By that fact, there's no sense in renewing a VR that will expire while you're out of the country.

Path is over. Ceremony was last week... except for passports, I will *never* deal with CIC again.

Just checked our status. Apparently our letter was sent on Apr 21, with a test date of May 28. Perhaps this will be in time to do the Oath at the July 1 Canada Day celebration???

I don't know about that. We still haven't received a test date. I think what has happened is that we've lost the excitement that the letter might be coming tomorrow... because there have been too many tomorrows since we sent the application in!

We are in Edmonton as well, and while we haven't called CIC to ask about file location (it really doesn't matter), our timeline is similar to yours. The other thing to note is that there seems to be a line where they sped up ALL applications -- I think it was in the spring. We have friends who...

Background checks are a part of PR. If you have maintained PR, then the only issue is criminality in another jurisdiction. That should be easy to verify, and if it is time consuming, then perhaps a delay. Again, that check is something that is done daily at the border, while-you-wait. There's...

I disagree, actually. The Citizenship process is dirt simple, and could be simplified still. Remember the only relevant parts are PR date and physical presence since that date. Of semi-relevance is proof of language, but that could also be established in the testing / interview part of the...

I find it absolutely amazing that CIC hasn't gone through a few call logs to realize that some basic improvements in the eCAS would go a long way towards reducing their call centre volumes. The system doesn't seem to have changed in the four years since we applied for PR -- and that's a...

They will if you ask them to (you just explain that you need a record of entry for your Citizenship application). We asked them to with our land entries. :)

This is actually pretty common among nations -- a "tattered" or "soiled" flag should be destroyed in a "dignified way". This usually means burning in a private ceremony. Accidentally dropping it isn't "disrespectful" provided it is picked up ASAP and not trampled upon... and merely dropping it...

Oh, I didn't realize they're asking for a FP *check* -- I'm pretty sure we had to give prints for PR, and they actually handed us the 10-card back to send in ourselves.

I think we've clarified that the received line disappearing doesn't mean a local office transfer, but it does seem to mean that the file has been touched in some way. If you look at the spreadsheet, there's a nice average of 30 days between when it disappears and when the test notice is issued...

Bill C-24 Second Reading on February 27th:

Just for clarification, the "intent to reside in Canada" clause is not new. We recently received the results for an ATIP request for my great-grandfather's citizenship file. He was naturalized in 1919. From his application (a form titled "Dominion of Canada / The Naturalization Act, 1914 /...

So it doesn't really affect your application, I don't think. Probably not worth bothering them with... especially because I think you still need to complete some sort of "statutory declaration of common-law relationship" to have it officially recognized...
