I used the following form. Made copies. One for things I carried with me, one for items to follow. I also asked how long do I have for my things to following me; the customs officer upto 1 year. However, please verify this on your own as well.

Also make sure you make copies for your records.

Good luck.
Thanks a lot ohhcanada

I landed July 21 and still waiting for any communication from CIC. I called them 3 times so far. The last time I called it was over the 53 business days which is well over the 43 or 45 business days they ask you to wait for your card. The said they would send a notice to the PR card office for more info. And that it can take upto 30 more days (presumably 30 business days as well) when I should receive some communication from them. I see some people on the forum who got their PR who landed 1-2 weeks before me and I see others who landed with them are still waiting. I guess it is a hit or miss. Possibly because most new immigrants land in Summer when kids are off from school and the weather here is not so cold. I am just hoping that it is only a matter of high volume than normal for them during the Summer months to process the extra PR cards on time.

Remember the wait for the Visa's and all that before we landed in Canada. Keep your hopes alive. take care.

Fresh update as of now. Just talked to a very nice CIC rep. who said that many of their clients are facing delays in new PR card being issued. She even said that the CIC PR card issuing office is giving priority to new PR over PR renewal but it's still taking long. Finger crossed here. Waiting for my 30 wait period for some communication from Sydney, NS office.

Hi,
I am going to land in few weeks. Do I need to fill out the 5444 form "Application For A Permanent Resident Card" as part of the paperwork preparation? The form has many items do not apply to the new immigrants.

Thanks

No need to apply. All you need to do is provide your address to the officer which he will write on COPR. PR cards will be automatically mailed to the address you have provided.

Hi,
Thanks for the information. The instruction that came with the landing Visa does not mention the 5444 form either. I'm not going to fill the form then.

I provided 2 photos per CIC instructions when I submitted the passport and paperwork for applying for the landing visa. I found one photo was sticked to the CPR form, and the other was returned back to me. what is this returned photo supposed to be used for? Did you run into the similar situation? Is this simply they dont need it or do they mean to use it for PR card application at the port of entry when I land? The PR card instruction says 2 photos are needed though.

Thanks

The returned photo is of no use now. Upon your landing, they will retain the CPR copy that has your photo on it and use that photo for PR card processing.

If you are used to really cold weather then you may ignore the rest otherwise if you coming to Alberta in the Winter especially in Nov or after, make sure you have winter clothing before you land. A family told me that they landed in Nov. some years back with mild winter clothing and fell ill immediately along with with kids. Welcome to Alberta.

Please know that nights are already reaching 0 or even a few -Degrees C temperatures here in Edmonton area, Calgary in pretty similar as well.

Is there anyone in the forum who did the CIC landing and H1B visa stamping in the same trip?

I am trying to find posts/threads about their experiences. If anyone has seen such a post or discussion thread please let everyone (and me) know. I tried searching the forum, some older 2004-2007 posts came up but nothing recent in the past year or two. Similar results on doing a google search.

Is it too much of a hassle? Are there any disadvantages to doing it? Any thing in particular that I need to be careful about? I dont mind the long trip time but it would give me an opportunity to experience the local life better.

Seniors who have done this in the past please post your experiences.

Thanks,
