Hello,
I was asked to post this message by a friend of my husband. If somebody can help with opinion and some advice - we would appreciate it a lot.

Hello,
I desperately need advice or consultation on the following matter.
I am a Canadian citizen, my wife is PR. She has two kids from her previous marriage sponsored by me and living on PR status here with us. They are 10 and 3 years old.
We had our own child born 4 months ago. And I have an elderly father living with us who is 95 y.o. It is extremely difficult for my wife to look after the small kids and my father. I try to help her, but I am the one who is working in the family.
My wife has her Mother 60 y.o. living alone in her country - she is the only relative of hers - no father nor brother-sisters.
I heard that there's some program here in Canada that works through the Ministry of Health, that can help us to bring my wife's Mother to live with us and help looking after kids.
Does anyone know anything about this program?
We would appreciate any input and suggestion.
Thank you in advance.

Sam and Mary

I believe there is a category called Live-In Caregiver, but I think that's considered employment, not family reunification. But hey, if it works... why not?

i was going to say the same thing but yeah it counts as employment you would have to get a labor market opinion. and go through the process as though she would be an employee i.e provide her with pay and so forth.

For real? That seems odd!!! I figured the category was created just for people like the OP! Hmmm... now I'm curious (runs to look it up...)

...

OUCH! Too true: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLish/work/caregiver/apply-who.asp That is harsh! Although temporary work permits can be quicker than PR aren't they?

Well anyways, if his wife is a PR, why can't she just sponsor her mother under Family Class?

She can, but it will take close to 5 years before she arrives.

thank you for all your replies. they have already started sponsorship for her, but the process is very long. Caregiver would fit perfectly, but it is possible to apply as a caregiver being under family sponsorship process?

I still under the impression that I also read somewhere that if there are many little kids in the family and their mother fails to give them equal attention it is possible to get a close relative from abroad like grandmother who can help with kids. but I myself cannot prove it as I am not familiar with Canadian laws.

They would have to go through the process of hiring a live in caregiver, but first they must qualify as employers, go through the process of advertising for the position, submit for a LMO. Then the mother herself must also qualify to work as a caregiver showing either proof of paid employment for at least a year or caregiver training for 6 months. I think I read sometime ago that it is possible to have more than one application getting processed. Although the case was both as PRs- family stream and PNP.

unfortunately she doesn't have any experience as a care giver. that makes it almost impossible then.

I even do not know what to suggest. there should be some way out.

Try the Provincial Nomination Program. it's for sponsoring over any family member that is not your spouse. And it's supposed to be much faster.

thank you for your suggestion, but as I can see there's no family stream in the Ontrio Provincial Nomination Program.

I don't think there is either... I'm afraid you will have to use the federal sponsorship process.
