Hi all
It seems tonight I have a river of questions so I like to apologize in case I become a nuisance

In the Additional Family Information [IMM 5406] I have included (I am the sponsor and filling it on behalf of my wife) my self and 4 of her family members. Ok so far it looks clear
But I understand we have to fill up one additional "Additional Family Information [IMM 5406]" for each of her family members. Is this true?
She has a father, mother and two sisters. One of her sisters is not on speaking terms with my wife so how we go to ask her to fill up a form.

Am I wrong or this is a fact ! And lets say that they all fill one form of their own do they still have to put one another in their respective forms?

Wow it seems frustrating

I think you are confused (it is confusing, don't worry!) a little.

The form IMM 5406 should be filled by:
You, as the principal applicant, (in your case, your spouse)
Your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), (in your case - you) and
Your dependent children aged 18 or over (whether accompanying you to Canada or not). (in your case - your children)

I have quoted the above from the guide here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp
(scroll down and it shows exactly who should fill a form, and what specific information should be provided in each of the fields)

When each of the above fills the form, they will fill it from their perspective. The parents or siblings (of the applicant and spouse) need not fill this form. Only their details need to be mentioned. Hence, it does not matter if one is not on speaking terms with the other (as their signatures are not required).

Hi Sakamath and thank you again for your valuable info (This is the second time you helped me)
I was reading this that is onpage A1 from WEST EUROPE guide
"Additional Family Information (IMM 5406) - You and each of your family members 18 years of age
or older must complete their own copy of this form"
What got me confused is the word family. Europeans we have the tendecy to think of our sisters and parents as family so when I read that "each of your family members 18 years of age or older must complete their own copy of this form" I thought I have to put also the sisters and my wife's parents but they are not coming to Canada
Is this ok?
Thank you once again my friend

Oh dear...

I didn't fill out a 5406 for myself (the sponsor). Is our application going to be sent back as incomplete? Should I fill one out and send it to Mississauga now? (I don't have an AOR yet, and so no UCI number of anything)

These are the forms you are required to fill as a sponsor:

The following are the forms that must be filled out and submitted:
•Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344) (PDF, 356 KB)
•Document Checklist (IMM 5491) (PDF, 159 KB)
•Sponsorship Evaluation (IMM 5481) (PDF, 50 KB)
• Sponsor Questionnaire: (IMM 5540) (PDF 115 KB)
•Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union (IMM 5409), if applicable (PDF, 19 KB)
•Use of a Representative (IMM 5476), if applicable (PDF, 38 KB)
•Receipt (IMM 5401)

If you haven't yet, take a look at the Guides. They are very helpful.

Sponsor - Guide 3900 - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp#3900E2
Guide 3999 - breaks down forms by sponsor and applicant - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp

PS: You haven't asked as many questions as me yet and yours aren't nearly as annoying as mine :p

I understand who should fill this form out and so forth. My partner, the applicant, is having trouble with the mother, father and sibling section. His family is very distant and although he knows where they live, state and country, he doesn't have their actual address. We could maybe get his fathers but that is about it. I really think this might be a problem. I hope the CIC understands some families are abusive and disfunctional.

As long as you enter as much information as you know, that's fine. Even "functional" families have issues with keeping track of each other these days. In our case for example, my wife does not have complete addresses to two of her brother/sister, but she knew the town name and country where they live, so we entered as much on the form. It was accepted by the CIC. Just make sure to write "unknown" to whatever piece of information you don't know or unsure of.

This is correct, I never knew my birth father all I had was his name, my mother couldn't remember his birth day and no one had ant idea where he was including his siblings... so I entered his name thats it, included a letter stating I had never met him etc... my application is now finished and I am awaiting the return of my PP and CoPR. Good Luck!

When you are sponsoring only your spouse or partner, only the applicant fills out this form. The sponsor does not need to.
The term 'family members' is defined in the forms. It does not mean what we would usually take it to mean. So the applicant's sisters, brothers, parents, etc. do not fill out their own version of the form. However, the applicant must list his/her spouse/partner, children, parents, and all siblings on the forms.

If you don't know all the details of the address, birthdates, etc., of these people, just fill in what you know and attach a separate sheet of paper explaining why you don't know and can't get all the info requested.

Are you sure? Things may have changed now, as the guide clearly states who should complete the forms and the list includes spouse and children. But I may be wrong in its interpretation.

One more question
In Section A Additional Family information she must list her common law which happens to be me (the sponsor). Do I have to also fill up one my self? According to the requirement in the guide it says: "Your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not)

No only she should fill out this form, your are her common-law husband and she should list you as such but, you are already a Canadian Citizen or Canadian PR and not required to fill it out. When I filled it out I included my husband he is a Canadian Citizen he did not fill out a form for himself... My oldest son, 24, married, with children of his own, I included him but, since he was not dependent he was not required to fill it out. anyways the trick in what they have stated is... the highlighted section below... how can you accompany her? your already here which means, the government knows all they need to know about you
This form must be completed by:

You, as the principal applicant,
Your spouse or common-law partner (whether accompanying you to Canada or not), and
Your dependent children aged 18 or over (whether accompanying you to Canada or not).

I am finding this form really confusing.

I am my husband's sponsor, a Canadian citizen. We have no children or dependents.
What do we do with this form?
