Hello Everyone,
I am completing my generic application form for Canada. I have included my dependent son turned 21 years old in August 2014. Could someone advise if the application is fine with my son? I heard that the governing rules for dependents have changed. My son is a college student who is not mentally and physically sound.

I need some information on how to treat my son. I would like him to accompany me to Canada.

You can't include your son as a dependent. He doesn't meet the criteria to be a dependent. CIC changed the rules this summer and children must now be under 19 years of age at the time the application is submitted to be included as a dependent.

Your son is too old. If he wishes to immigrate to Canada then he will have to qualify on his own.

Thanks for the information.
Anyone knows how influential a parent is in assisting a dependent to get to Canada?

Hello Racdee,
it's a bit difficult to understand your question :-[

Can you please kindly clarify what exactly do you mean? If there's a possibility for you to assist in your son's immigration?

The only help you can provide your son is in giving him 5 additional points once you are permanent residents and living in Canada if he applies through FSW.

Otherwise he has to qualify entirely on his own.

What I really need to find out is if you have a dependent that is 21 years of age and gain permanent residence in Canada, what is the easiest way for him to get in the country. He is currently in college. I know he could get my 5 points if i am successful under FSW programme but is there any other way? Would the local Visa office consider offering my son a temporary visa?
