Random people who find out I'm sponsoring my husband seem to think the same thing. "Oh so your husband is applying for citizenship. I thought he would get that as soon as he married you" "uh.. no." It's also funny when hubby's family asks about it and say the same thing and I respond with "It's like getting a green card/PR in the US, there's a long process involved." That usually explains it, but some of his family is from the uhh, deep south, and they can't seem to wrap their head around the fact that I'm just Canadian and not American as well since I married hubby and vice versa :
