4+ years working in Canada. Want PR status. Best route?

Hello all, first post here!

My husband and I are US citizens that have 5 year work visas and have been living in Canada for 4+ years. We can renew/extend our work visa but we'd like to file for permanent residency, however, there's a little confusion about the process given our (unique?) circumstance.

The confusion comes from the fact that it looks like Express Entry is the only way to apply, but it doesn't seem to take into consideration applicants (for PR status) who already live here, own a home here, and have worked here for 4+ years.

My husband's a psychiatrist: NOC Skill Type A -- Code #3022.

For our situation, is there any other way to go about getting PR without going through express entry? Can we somehow leapfrog Express Entry? (We're already here, Canada!)

Application process is the same whether you are living in or outside of Canada. Your circumstances really aren't unique and we have plenty of people here who apply while working in Canada.

If you want to apply through the Federal Skilled Worker program or Canadian Experience Class - you need to apply through Express Entry. There are additional points given for having Canadian experience. Sounds like you need to do further reading into the program details to familiarize yourself with the application process and points system.

You can also look into the Provincial Nomination Program for the province you're residing in.

Suggest you also spend time reading through the discussions in the Express Entry, Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nomination sections of the forum.
