3 day quarantine hotel stay for PR with COPR,is it required?

Hi Everyone,

Would like to know if my wife and step son from China need to do the 3 day quarantine hotel before quarantining at my residence for the full 14 days as required? They are both approved with their PR and COPR and are ready to fly to Canada now. Are they exempt from this 3 day hotel quarantine rule as this is their first time to Canada? They will be following all the other airline protocals before getting on the plane. Thanks for all your replies in advance.

The exemption list is very short. I think most people that travel into Canada by air need to arrange for the (up to) 3 days quaratine hotel.
There is only 4 airport open for internation travel. They need to quaratine at one of the 4 locations before they need to take any transfer flight (if their destination isn't at or near 1 of those 4 cities)

This cost to quarantine at the 3 day hotel quarantine rule is gonna put me in financial stress. I was hoping that her situation would be exempt as we have been separated for over 2 years as she has a biological son with me that is only 5 yrs old...well, anyways, thx for ur info!

I read some people were able to get refund if they get -ve result and can go home to continue their quarantine earlier than 3 days. (if they do not need a connecting flight)

But the refund policy seems to be different from each hotel. Most hotels charge less than $2000 as initially posted by the government.

If you can't manage the less than 2k in your budget or on a credit card I'm not sure how you are going to continue to support your family without government help. To sponsor them you needed to show that you had enough funds to support them. Yes they will be required to go through Montreal. Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver.

No exemptions for the quarantine, but considerations can be made financially, depending on the explanation and assessment of your situation. As previously mentioned, it can be less than $2k, depending on the length of stay and which hotel is assigned...which depends on a negative test result.
