I landed on Jan 12th, 2016. I drove through Michigan into Sarnia, Canada. I arrived in Halifax on Jan 14th and went to an event - Fusion Halifax Open House 1 hour after I arrived. Fusion is a Young Professionals group in Halifax. I met many of the people I now hang out with at that event. I was fortunate to have secured a job prior to my arrival. A few things...

Accommodation: I had strong preference for a 3 month contract but couldn't get a short term lease, I eventually settled for a house share on a 6 month lease in the North end of Halifax over looking the harbour. Be careful as per some complex that offer month to month. I explored some of them and the the buildings are derelict. I stayed in a Airbnb accommodation for a couple of weeks to explore the options I had penciled down the top few prior to arrival and then upon arrival , I checked the options out in person. I'll suggest the same. Look on kijiji.com, per-select 4 to 5 places you're interested in, contact the landlord and book a viewing in advance of your arrival and then go check out the place upon arrival.

People - Halligonians are very friendly. I have absolutely loved my time here so far. The mindset is a little relaxed and the work ethic contrasts what obtained in the US. I think people here are just more relaxed, things move slowly and workmanship isn't the best. In all however, I'll give Halifax a thumbs up.

I arrived in the winter so i've yet to explore places outside Halifax

Nice one Tenkrun10. Where in Halifax are you? I live in Halifax too. Have you gone to ISANS?

I landed on 19th Dec 2015 and had to return to India on 31st Dec 2015. My wife is in Halifax. I have been applying to jobs online but no luck so far..

I don't wish to leave my job here in India and come here without a job.

Any idea how to look for jobs in Finance?

Bensonams,

I didn't realize that you live in Halifax too. I met up with Tenkrun10 in person. I believe we've PMed each other briefly but not in away to get to know each other better. I guess I'll do that now as a good will gesture. Halifax is a small place and I hope that we can get to know each other.

Cheers
