I just read the big news about the plane crash in Africa from a few days ago , one of the victims on that plane was flying to Africa to get his police clearance to submit to IRCC ... now his wife and kids in Canada may no longer be able to stay since he was the principal applicant. Compared to this guy I certainly feel lucky that I haven’t been screwed by IRCC to that level

That’s very sad to hear. Was he required to submit police clearance for citizenship? I’m not sure about his minor children if they say they’re dependants under his file . But if his wife is also applying for citizenship, her application is separate because she’s an adult. Only her residency obligations and other requirements will decide if she will get citizenship or not.

Sad to hear this story.

Once landed as an immigrant, each applicant is treated as individual thereafter. She can still get citizenship if her requirements are met.

I understand your frustration with IRCC but that's a little unfair. Besides a freak accident (or Boeing's failure, which is to be determined), it's the victim's home country's fault that he/she had to go back and obtain a police report. IRCC cannot open an exception for any specific country just because it's too difficult to obtain a government document from there.

Well, I was only being semi-serious with that remark... but are you really talking about being 'fair' here? Is IRCC ever fair in this process? If IRCC is fair, we wouldn't even have this thread to start with LOL

Of course IRCC is not fair. There's too much spread in the processing time. But that tragic incident wasn't their fault..

I never said it was THEIR fault, but it was the indirect result of their rule - if he didn't need to get the police clearance from that country where he spent more than 6 months in the past, he would have been still alive with his family - and it's not like IRCC follows their own rules anyway, back in 2015 they boasted about finishing background check for each refugee case within a couple of weeks or less: how was that even possible when many of them didn't even have passports, not to mention anything like police clearance, while people living in Canada take a year and still waiting for background to clear?
