Hi Annie,

Your timeline sounds very similar to mine—we haven’t had any updates since February either. I submitted a webform and was told the file is currently being processed in POS. I followed up with POS directly, but their response only confirmed that applications are still in the queue for review.

If it brings you peace of mind, I’d recommend sending the webform, though I’d manage expectations as the information you receive may be quite limited.

Wishing you all the best and hoping we both get updates soon!
Hi! Fingers crossed myself that something happens soon. The process was going so smoothly until the background check process. Im convinced they dropped our file in a black hole somewhere.. Lol. I see someone mentioned somewhere about a cap that IRCC has put in place to decrease the number of PR approvals. Does that cap apply to sponsorships outside of Quebec as well? I can't seem to find any information about that.

Hi! I totally feel you on that—this waiting game is no joke. It really did seem like everything was moving along until the background check stage. I’ve also been wondering if our file got lost in some mysterious IRCC vortex!
As for the cap, from what I’ve found, IRCC has introduced some caps and changes, but they mostly apply to temporary residents like international students and workers. The permanent resident targets for family sponsorships, including spousal sponsorships outside Quebec, haven’t been capped in the same way. In fact, the 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan still includes strong targets for family reunification
There is a cap for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), but that’s a separate stream and doesn’t affect spousal or partner sponsorships. So it looks like we’re still in the clear on that front!
Let’s keep hoping for some good news soon.
