Hello All,

I need help please. I applied for work permit extension using the "applying from Outside canada" form but I am inside canada (I did so because of the new rule off not applying for work permit from inside Canada). The address I provided in the application is my Canadian address. I received a passport request but I'm not sure where I should send the passport. Any idea will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You misinterpreted the changes in rules and you can no longer apply for a WP as a visitor from inside Canada. You have now applied for the wrong program and need to figure out if you can change to applying for a WP extension from inside Canada. At least you used your Canadian address when you applied for the extension from abroad and didn’t misrepresent your address or where you were currently living.

You will need to leave Canada and, hopefully, get your work permit at a port of entry.

If from a visa exempt country to get WP at POE.
It's a different case. He completed the work permit process as an outland. So he will get it at the port of entry. It's a common practice lately.

A visa exempt scenario is when you basically applying at a port of entry.

Interesting that you can lie and still get a WP.
I beg to differ, but I did not lie. I stated clearly that my address is in Canada even though I used an outland application package. There was nothing hidden in my application. I believe that is why it was approved as an outland application, hence requesting my passport rather than issuing me a WP as they would have done for for an inland application.

So leave the country and return. You circumvented the rules and got lucky.

I agree that he didn't really lie. He disclosed everything.

There are legitimate ways to apply as outland being physically in Canada in other types of applications as well. So it's not something new.

Hi Rubydairy, I just wanted to check!
do you get your visa stamped and wp at port entry?
Where did you sent it?
I am in similar situation now I applied for wp with spouse study permit. I was inland and she was outland. So they requested passport.

Yes I got everything. I sent my passport to Ottawa and it got stamped for 2 years. With the work visa stamped on my passport, I went to Cancun, Mexico (direct flight as I don't have US visa for transit) on a Saturday, booked a hotel and spent the night, returned to Canada the next day and got my work permit at the port of entry. Mexico allows anyone with a valid Canada visa to come in without going for a Mexico visa. At the port of entry, they asked about my trip to Mexico and the details of my LMIA job, that was all. I hope this helps, all the best.

Thank you! Rubydairy. This is very helpful. I have already sent my passport to Ottawa. It’s been over three weeks now. Hoping to hear something soon!

Also try to follow-up with the parcel company you used. In my case, I used a return envelope, somehow someone there was confused and didn't process the return until I put a call through
