Hello, so I recently moved from Montréal to Calgary and I didn’t update my address. I gave them my aunts mailing address which is in Calgary and my current address is set to Montréal . Should I update my address to my aunts address in Calgary, this is where I’m staying now or will it delay the process ?

Do you need to show your drivers license during the oath ? And does your address need to be on your drivers license ?

Thank you so much ! I’m confused

Yes, you definitely need to update your residential address to the most recent place in which you’re residing right now. If you’ve moved to Calgary permanently, you need to update your address, and yes, during both test and oath ceremony they will need your ID.

But does the updated address need to be on your ID ? Do they check to see if the address on your Id is the same as the one you gave them ?

Have you received your oath invitation? If yes, update it during the oath to avoid delays. But if you haven't received the oath yet, then yes, you need to update your residential address to Calgary as well. It may delay your application a couple of months if your file is actually in Montreal. I know many files are being processing at Sydney, NS, especially 2019 and early 2020 applications. If your file is among them, I doubt there would be any further delays for changing your address. I don't think the address on the driver's license should be the same as your actual address for the oath ceremony. Other can confirm this.

Okay thank you, I’ll update it but my question is does my ID need to have updated address on it ?

They usually need valid IDs during the oath ceremony. Valid IDs contain residential address on them. If you’re a montreal applicant and the address on your valid ID belongs to Calgary, then yes, something is definitely wrong. Logic advises you to change it.

Yes, you need to update your address. If by moving to Calgary you mean going to Calgary to live permanently, or at least permanently in near future, and if your most recent address in your IRCC account is the Montreal address, you definitely need to update your address.

But they have my current mailing address in Calgary so do I still need to update it ?

They need mailing address for corresponding. However, they really care where you’re living. They care about your most recent permanent residential address. If you live somewhere other than the place you’ve declared in your application, update it. Just simply update your residential address.

Will that delay my application ? Can I update it on the date of oath ?

There wont be file transfer as its same location with different address. if you cant get your certificate at old address then you have to update the address on your application to avoid losing the certificate.

Imagine another year or two long wait for getting proof of citizenship ;) if you miss receiving certificate.
