Hi Legalfalcon, or anyone who knows, if one's application has been approved per gcms notes, what's going to happen next, when it eventually happens? Should one be expecting the golden email straightaway, or will there be another final hurdle to pass? Thank you in advance

I also got the email! Looks like mine came from Edmonton, what about you? I am an Alberta PNP candidate, i’m hoping this means some form of movement. I had everything passed in December but has been radio silence since then, just waiting for COPR
Congratulations on your approval. Mine also came from Edmonton. Did you ever get remedical request?

At the final stage IRCC will check if your medicals and passport are still valid. Before PPR is sent the details of an applicant's COPR, its expiration and the PR visa are input into the GCMS system. The COPR and PR visa cannot be issued by IRCC beyond the validity of the applicants passport or medicals, whichever expires first.

If your GCMS notes shows that your application has been Approved (on Page 2 of GCMS under the Assessment section), then it indicates that all the stages have been passed. However, if the Status (see on Page 1 of GCMS) is still Open, then the PPR request has not been issued. If an Approved application is Closed before PPR then it has to be reopened before a final review can be done again.

Thank you very much for the extensive explanation. This forum has helped me a lot even though I just joined about a week ago. Everyone has been so helpful, and the support system is what makes this waiting more bearable. Thank you so much, everyone.

I just got the survey email stating that a decision has been made, which is hopefully good news! My passport runs out December 2021 (obviously I never thought it would get so close, as I started the process in Nov 2019!). I know Sept 2021 will be likely the earliest possible IRCC starts moving again - to be safe, when should I order a new passport? As soon as I do I have to invalidate the old one, so I don't want to get messed up with my application. Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

I'm relatively optimistic you'll get CoPR by then, but if you don't replace your passport you'll need to get CoPR, land, then replace your passport from overseas (don't want to be in Canada on an expired passport) all before your current passport expires. That sounds pretty tight to me?

@legalfalcon is there any reason that updating your passport would lead to a delay with application processing or issuing of CoPR? I don't think there is, so it might be best for @NatureBoy2 to just replace it now?

Thanks - that was my guess. So yeah as long as it doesn't disrupt anything pre-CoPR, I'm better off getting a new one soon as I can (which comes with its own difficulties, as I'll have to prove some sort of urgency to get the passport replaced during the current covid shutdown, which isn't going to end anytime soon here! I'll figure something out!)

Updating your passport does not cause any delay. After you renew your passport, send a scan of the biographic pages to IRCC via webform .

When all stages have been passed, you will see approved on page 2 of your GCMS notes.

However, on page 1 you will see that the status is open and it is in progress:

This signifies that your COPR has not been generated and issued. Once the COPR is issued the application will be closed and that is also when you will receive PPR.

Many applications are currently in this status, where PPR / COPR has not been issued but to travel restrictions. Many applications are kept open so that if your medicals / criminality / security expire it can be extended or re-done. If the application is closed, then it will have to be re-opened before your cOPR can be generated and a PPR issued.

In some applications you may also see COPR number, but the status is open.

Just wait, like other applicants are and soon you will receive the PPR.

If the final is blank, then a decision on your application has not been made. If you are an outland applicant, then many applications for outlander applicants have been put on hold since they are not exempt from the travel restrictions. IF a decision on your application is made, and a PPR / COPR issued, then the status of the application is closed.

However, if you are unable to travel before the cOPR expires, then an application has to be opened and a final review has to be done again, including extension medicals and in some cases security / criminality.

This is why many applications even if all stages are passed, a decision has not been made and they are open.
