Got an extremely generic reply to a web form I sent 24 days back. 30 days up and GCMS notes are still not here. How long can Covid be used as an excuse and why are IRCC still on reduced staff? What is the scientific proof behind closure of the border for over a year despite politicians’ requests and letting hundreds of COPR’s expire every day with no option but waiting for a manual extension or an AL? And how is it that Canada is vaccinating just 130,000 people a day compared to 2.5 million in the US?
1. IRCC staffing: @legalfalcon might know more about why covid restrictions are leading to slower processing time? It does seem like most of the work would be able to be done remotely?
2. Border closure: opening the border is extremely unpopular in Canada - it would be political suicide for Trudeau to do this before vaccines are widely available https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/one-year-on-poll-suggests-canadians-still-deeply-wary-about-allowing-u-s-visitors-1.5358580
3. COPR expirations: this IMO is the biggest failure by IRCC during the whole pandemic... this has really played havoc on those receiving COPR and there should have been a way to get those people to Canada. It is not many people and the quarantine system here is good
4. Vaccines: There are no approved vaccines manufactured in Canada at this time, despite efforts from the Trudeau government to get Pfizer or Astra Zeneca to produce here. So Canada is forced to get vaccines from other countries. The US is not exporting any vaccine to anyone, so the EU is the only option. Canada is lucky that the EU is being as generous as they are. Vaccination has picked up significantly over the last few weeks and we are on track to have the whole country vaccinated by late June/early July

Haha I’d like to think all my questions where rhetorical and was just venting my frustration. Thanks a ton though anyway! :)

Hello @legalfalcon
I witnessed a GU today when logging in to my account.
Last thing I found out from my notes is that my eligibility is RR but everything is Met or appears Met and the RR was for the stat question.
Is it possible that this GU means I passed eligibility?
A GU can mean anything from a mundane step of transferring your application to another office, updating a record, or passing a stage. To know what it really means, call IRCC, send a webform or rely on your GCMS notes.

Apart from this, a ghost update is a mystery, unless you see some change on your MyCIC account.

Also, some applicants see multiple GUs, some none at all.

IRCC, before issuing a COPR can ask if your re in Canada or not. If not, then you may be asked to provide an address change and a PPR will be sent asking you to submit the passport at the LVO.

However, if you are send a COPR, then you will have to obtain a PRTD to travel back to Canada as the COPR is signed and stamped.
@legalfalcon Thank you expert...You are the best.

Got the GCMS Notes after my rant just a couple of hours back. (As of 26 Feb 2021)

Eligibility: recommended passed
Criminality: passed
Security: not started
Info sharing: in progress
Primary VO: CPC Ottawa

Considering I am FSW-O, I dont know how good this considering security takes the longest time (per the posts I've read here).

Let’s all keep in mind that we knew – the day we applied and before that, in the middle of a pandemic – that our application would take AT LEAST 6 months. The audacity of some people to talk sh*t about CIC because their application is taking longer than some other lucky folks is astounding, even though the 6 months haven’t passed yet. Even before COVID, CEC would generally take 7 months, and PNP and FSW 9 months.
let’s keep civil and patient, and support each other. We will get PR some day. Maybe tomorrow, maybe in a few months. It will come.
I didn't know CIC was above criticism. Yes it's unfair to expect ppr in less then 6 months but at the same time CIC should also raise it's customer service standards a bit. Keeping people in the dark and telling them to wait indefinitely is definitely not the way to go. Most people are getting restless because of the uncertainty. Plus I don't think you realise what this means to some people. People from 3rd world countries especially. The amount of money you spend, the time and effort it takes, the stakes are pretty high. Give them some leeway at least if you can't empathise with them.

Same. I'd consider myself lucky if I get in the next 3 months or maybe in the next 3-6 months. Hope IRCC announces a realistic timeline soon so that we could manage expectations.

How about, for a change, we start to direct the frustration and anger where it belongs and not to the members of this forum. We are all in the same boat here (more or less, speaking based on the fact that this particular thread is called "October 2020 AOR"), Stop fueling this conflict please. As @calvinklein suggested, let's keep civil and patient and support each other. Being in the dark about all of our applications is already tough on all of us, and creating meaningless and helpless conflicts here (where people seek support and positive news and updates), does not help the situation. To prevent any of the potentially mean answers or comments, I am also patiently waiting on the decision for my application, I am also incredibly unhappy about the "brokenness" and inadequacy of the IRCC systems, I also paid a lot of money trying to get to this point of being a permanent resident, and important decisions and plans in my life get also repeatedly pushed back because of a long processing of application and COVID on top of that. Thank you for your time, patience and understanding.

I have read a lot of comments here that people are waiting for their COPRs to switch jobs. What's that all about? You can switch your job whenever you feel like and no IRCC employee is contacting your employers to confirm anything. They already get that information every year from your employer. After switching your job, you just have to send a webform informing IRCC about the change in your job. Unless its in a completely different NOC, they don't care. You received your score based on your credentials till your AOR date, and if you want to pursue with something better nobody is asking you to stay put. I already switched my job in January and raised a webform informing them, which IRCC agent confirmed to me on call. They didn't want any new document from my new employer. Still, I attached my new accepted offer letter in the webform.

Omgg, I'm such a noob here. Could you tell me GCMS notes are and how I can get them? Feels like they're useful
You can see a sample Gcms file at https://sample.gcmsnotes.com/ and the process to request them at https://bit.ly/34KNSLI

The unfortunate part is that IRCC has categorized 3rd party GCMS providers into tiers when it comes to extensions.

As a result some 3rd parties will fairly consistently receive 90 days extensions when you get gcms while others receive 60 day extensions if and when extensions are taken

These actions of IRCC were revealed in response to an ATIP request and are an undisputed fact.

49% of all requests get delayed with IRCC, that's why CBSA is a better option https://bit.ly/34nuJPu

No one can interpret a GU, and your guess is good as anyone else's.

Below are all false statements made here on the forum and elsewhere, pay no heed to these and more

Requesting your GCMS Notes may be beneficial and could help move your file forward. This is the case as an immigration officer has to review your file before releasing your GCMS Notes. Thus, the IRCC officer may use this opportunity to update documents received from other agencies.

For CBSA, if your security screening is in progress, or has been initiated, unless the GCMS notes can be captured and do not delay the working of the agency, they will seek an extension, and as as soon as it your notes can be released they will, but surely before the extension time frame expires.
