It should be on the way to your house. Call bls and ask them for tracking number. For me they did not upload the tracking number. I had to call them and ask them.

Hi All,

Have a few more questions as I am filling and gathering documents for OCI application.
  1. Out of these options, which one is better?
    • Regular Courier Service – CAD. 20.00
    • Courier Pick up and Drop - CAD. 35.00
  2. I am getting the below message when I am filling for the Pickup and Drop service. I am living in Toronto and I still have to send the application to Brampton BLS center?
YOU LIE IN TORONTO JURISDICTION AND YOU NEED TO SEND DOCUMENT TO BRAMPTON BLS CENTER
  3. Is $250.4 the fees for "Surrender of Indian Passport" + courier fees to be taken as a Bank draft?
  4. In OCI checklist, there is a section "ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS: (All documents in original are must)" in page #3. If I understand correctly, the additional documents are applicable only for applicants applying on basis of their parents / spouse. Could any one confirm if I am right? I am applying after I received the Canadian citizenship.
  5. In OCI checklist, there is a section "MARITAL STATUS: (All documents in original are must)" in page #5. For spouse, should I submit all the requested documents such as PR card, Record of Landing, etc., in OROGINAL?
  6. In OCI Registration instructions, what document is meant here? "Evidence of relationship as parent/grandparent/ great grandparent, if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for registration as OCI Cardholder:The document of relationship could be Birth Certificate issued from competent authority mentioning both parents’ name. In case the birth certificate is issued by a foreign authority, it is to be Apostled or endorsed by the concerned Indian Mission abroad"

In the checklist for "OCI it says that "Ensure that you register for the OCI in the current year. Forms completed in previous years will not be accepted". What does that mean?

https://www.blsindia-canada.com/CanadaVisaCCT/Toronto-OCI-Checklist-Rev-11-0-Oct-2018.pdf

It implies , say, if you registerd online in dec and submit docs at BLS in jan ; it won't be allowed.
So does that mean, I cannot submit the application during these holidays? Should I wait till the new year?

*Sent my (surrender + OCI appl.) to BLS by purolator on Nov. 5

*Both the appls were delivered to Consulate on Nov 16 by BLS

*Received my (surrendered Indian passport +certificate) on Dec 3

*But the OCI status on OCI enquiry site showed just today with Acknowledgment date
as today ( Dec 10) .

Looking at all that, when can I expect my OCI?

thanks
I am also submitting my OCI + surrender application together in Toronto jurisdiction. Again a few more questions.
  • I should be sending the application in Postal to Brampton address - 10 Gillingham Drive, Unit 202, Brampton, ON L6X 5A5. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  • Since you submitted both the applications together, how many packages did you send? Did you separate OCI and Surrender application?
  • Just a return courier fee is enough or should we take a address label and send it?
  • Since I am submitting both the applications, what are the fees involved?
    • For OCI, under Fees tab there is no return courier fee. What it is for OCI?
  • I have to take the below Bank drafts. Please correct me if I the fees are good?
    • For OCI
      • The Consulate General of India - Toronto - $425.00
      • BLS International Services Canada Inc. - $7.40 + Courier fee - How much is the courier fee? Did you add the same $20.00?
    • For Surrender Application
      • BLS International Services Canada Inc. - $250.40 + $20.00 (courier fee) = $270.40
Could you or someone please help as I am on the verge of finishing the application and submitting it?

Wait for a few days. Do both the things in the new year; Registering on-line and sending the appl to BLS.

Use Purolator, they have tied up with BLS. That is what I used. If you use Canada Post, it will go in their regular mail and could cause delays.
Call BLS and they will do all the 3 credit card chargings for Purolator over the phone ( one for pick up and two for 2 separate deliveries) They will send you email confirmations with the link to the Purolator Label printout for sending your applications.

Send both the applications in one envelope. Just clip them separately and mark them with a Post-it label.
Fees will be OCI-- 425 .00 to Consulate General of India, Toronto.
Surrender - BLS INternational Services Canada Inc. 257.40 ( when you call, confirm this amount).

Hi,

I am hoping somebody can shed some light on the penalty one has to pay while surrendering Indian passport. I did surrender my passport recently and only paid application fee even though I had travelled to India once after becoming Canadian. I am curious if they overlooked it or they would come back later after seeing my passport stamps and ask for penalty via online payment or something?

Did you go to India using the Indian Passport?
There is no penalty if you used the Indian passport within 3 months of gaining Canada citizenship.
If you used it after that period, and you have already received your cancelled Indian passport, then they must have overlooked it.

Yes, I did travel on Indian passport. Though I travelled from France to India, not Canada. I received my citizenship in Feb and went to India in July - so after 3 months of grace period.

I have not received cancelled Indian passport yet, just submitted the application through walk-in. Are you saying if they did not ask for penalty during application submission at counter, they wouldn't come back later during processing and ask for it?

The penalty is for the Consulate officers to decide, not BLS staff. So, maybe they will ask for it later when the processing is done at the Consulate.
That said, I have not seen any post referring to the penalty process , nor I have personally been through that, so don't really know how
the penalty is enforced.

Thanks hardnut.

Anybody who has gone through penalty part can share please? I thought this is a thread to discuss OCI and plenty of people should have gone through surrender step.

Bump! Any response is appreciated
Very few people use the Indian passport after getting foreign citizenship , so you may not get a response you are looking for .
I suggest you wait and watch. If the penalty comes , it comes . If your passport is cancelled without a penalty , rejoice.

Hi everyone - I'm hearing a lot of contradictory information about what originals to include with the OCI application when I mail it to the BLS office in Brampton. This for my first time application for OCI + Surrender Certificate.

Can someone who recently applied (successfully) please confirm what originals they included? And if the originals were shipped back safely in a reasonable amount of time? I'm just concerned the originals might get lost.

On the checklist it says to include originals of the following (I'm an adult + unmarried individual born in India and have a Canadian passport):
1. COPR IMM5292
2. Last Indian Passport
3. Surrender Certificate - I will be applying for OCI and Surrender Cert at the same time so I think I can skip this.

Thank you!

Only original document you send is the Indian Passport for cancellation. COPR you send copy NOT original.
Total no. of physical photos you send for both applications is 2.
One you can paste on the passport surrender form with signature below.
2nd you can place in the envelope and attach the envelope to the OCI appl. with a paper clip.

On the checklist it says to include the original as well https://blsindia-canada.com/CanadaVisaCCT/Toronto-OCI-checklist-rev-11-8-NOV-20.pdf.
Can I ignore that comment?
