Hello

My PGWP is set to expire in Nov and I wish to extend my stay by applying for a visitor visa extension (visitor record). I had a few questions regarding it:

1. What is the maximum duration of extension?
2. After getting the visitor record, will i apply for a visitor visa (from inside Canada)?
3. If I apply for a TRV, is there a possibility that it will be for the duration of the validity of my passport?

Will greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thank you

1. Visitor records are generally issued for six months.
2. Yes, if you need to renew your TRV that is separate.
3. No immigration document will be valid for longer than your passport.

Thank you so much for your reply!!

My TRV expires with my work permit in November. Suppose I get a visitor record for 6 months, will I need to apply for a TRV based on the visitor record?
Will the TRV be valid for the duration of my visitor record or for the duration of my passport (ie 5 years)?

TRV is only needed to travel to Canada so if you plan on leaving and coming back you will need to apply for a TRV, not to mention you might not be able to come back at all due to Covid restrictions. It should be valid for duration of your permit.

Hello primaprime! Is it necessary to show a return flight as a proof that you will leave Canada in case you get a rejection for visitor record?

You need to show your stay in Canada is still temporary and you will leave when you have to. This can be a flight ticket or simply proof you have the money to buy one.

why not just apply for a work permit extension?

That's only because your passport expired early. Under no other circumstances can you extend a PGWP.
this is 2020. if you extend you get 2years as long as you currently have a job! I didn't get 2years bcos my passport doesn't have 2 years left. myself and other of my friends all got extension for 2years

do you currently have a job? if yes what kind of job? is your employer willing to pay the $230 LMAI exemption fee? if he says no you can ask him to apply for the lima exempt that you will cover the $230 fee from your pocket. The only downside is your extension is going to be a closed work permit so you can only work for that particular employer you got LMIA exempt from.

you don't know what you don't know! . I am saying based on experience something I did by myself and saw other people do successfully. even people who has gone out of status still get reinstated talk more of extension. even if it is just for one year that will give this poster some time to figure something else out like express entry or pnp.

Unless you have proof you successfully applied to extend a PGWP for a reason other than passport expiry, which you don't have because it's not possible, then I don't see why I or anyone else should believe you.
