@legalfalcon - I received a request from IRCC to provide my police certificate from India. The issue is that I don’t have a residential address there anymore as my parents passed away and the paternal uncle I was living with also passed away. Even if I start the process with BLS, it will get stuck in India. IRCC wants this document in one month. Kindly advise on how I should proceed. Thank you.

You will have to provide an Indian PCC, and you do not have to have a residential address. When you file your application, you can provide any address at which your whereabouts can be confirmed. Not all requests need an address verification.

I just finished a call with IRCC agent, she was very nice to talk and look deeply into my application.
AOR: June 6
CEC Inland
Eligibility: Recommend Passed
Criminality: In-progress
Security: Not Started
Also, she asked my BIO and checked that I exempt from it because my BIO is still valid (gave it when I came to Canada to study)

Called IRCC today, and got status of my app:

AOR: June 2, CEC Inland
Eligibility: Passed
Background Check: In progress
Security: Passed

Does anyone know how long would background check normally take?

What question did you ask them last Friday I called the agent told me eligibility was in progress but today the agent told me eligibility hasn’t started yet?

thank you for your response. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into replying to everyone. I had a follow up question: my profile changed to “we are processing your background check” - what stage would you say the application is at? We are exempt from giving biometrics per the latest rule and even though my initial list did not ask for the PCC, they now want to. Please advise. Thanks!

The BGC status changes twice during the processing, once early in the process when the criminality is initiated, then later in the process when the security is initiated.

IRCC can seek any document at the discretion of the Officer. If you have lived in India and your country of citizenship is India PCC would be requested in most cases at a later stage even though it may not be on the documents required list initially since you may not have lived in India in the last 10 years.

Instead of speculating, request your PCC, and if you feel your GCMS notes to know the stage your are in.
