can anyone tell if we need to pay duties for newly purchased vehicle. My husband is buying a car in USA before he moves to Canada as a PR. Is there a specific requirement for duty and taxes?

You have to pay taxes but duties depend on where the vehicle was manufactured .

You might be tax exempt as a landing immigrant. You will have to export and import you car though. It involves quite a bit of paperwork, a couple of safety inspections, maybe some fixing of your car and several hundred bucks in fees. Your husband will not be able to sell the car for a year or he would have to pay taxes.

I did the entire process myself when I moved to Canada from the US.

I am actually starting to become extremely upset by the whole thing, as I am sure everyone else is. We've funneled thousands and thousands of dollars into the Canadian government to exercise a right that has been established as a core value for Canadians - reuniting families. I cannot understand how this type of laissez faire attitude is allowed at the moment. They are only creating more work for themselves as they allow these applications to pile upon each other. Namely, all it would take would be a few socially distant workers to open the packages and scan them onto the system for the purpose of remote review. They specifically asked we do not put staples in them for what I can imagine was specifically that reason anyway. I'm just so at a loss.

Call CBSA. They will give you everything you need down to the last detail.

Your husband might be fully exempt because he is a new immigrant and not a returning Canadian. I know for me (as a returning Canadian), there is a $10,000 CDN exemption on each individual item I bring in. Under 10 grand, no taxes or duties. Over 10, I pay on whatever is over 10 grand.

You are totally right and logical. On the other band the situation is beyond any logic at IRCC's part. Their official message that they are still processing as much as possible. And whenever someone inquires about the status of his/her apps they always give that generic reply that they are still processing Feb. apps. However, we have never seen a single pending app from late Feb. or March received AOR by now after 5 months. Transparency is all what we need from them.

That is so true. Transparency is the way to go. Their generic responses just create more uncertainty and anxiety. What's even more disheartening is that they give different dates to different people - some email responses still say 12th Jan and some people have even gotten 12th March when they tried calling IRCC. It is such a messed up situation.

I am hoping and praying that our March 2020 Outland tracker moves soon. Any activity will be a ray of hope. Somebody here had posted that their MP had told them to contact their office again if no news comes by mid-August...I hope that person follows up on the letter.

Has anyone withdrawn their application and reapplied inland, or considered doing this? Do you think it would be a better option at this point?
