How do we prove that online study is not possible from the home country? What documents should we show to prove that? What explanation should we give? Plus countries in Asia are still highly affected - covid cases are exponentially increasing daily.

And CBSA clearly stated that " the burden of proof rests with the student to prove that their travel is essential ".

And IRCC has only mentioned internet restrictions and bandwidth limitations, but not about time zone difference. Time zone is such a lame reason, seems silly when so many people in IT, Security, Services, work in a time zone that's different from the one where they live.

And are they not going to ask - " if you can afford Canadian tuition and living expenses, then, can't you arrange for a higher internet bandwidth at home? "

I mean, not getting / not able to arrange for bandwidth at home, but being able to afford studying there....these 2 things somehow don't go together.
How time zone is silly? and IRCC gave example of bandwith issue. Does anyone still faces bandwith issues in 2020 but they still gave that as an example/reason? Time zone issue is actually real problem for many. If online classes according to our time will start on 3:00 AM, how'd you take them.?

You can only be considered so lucky here,
Mostly they didn't allowed students to enter Canada more than 2 months earlier and that too in normal times.
And you entered Canada 2 months earlier in times of Pandemic.
Congratulations.
btw how's your quarantine going on?
Did the CBSA officer said anything when you told about your quarantine at your friend's residence?
They said nothing actually nothing, they were just bit curious abt where i'll be quarantining that's it nothing serious, three days back i got a call from Minisitry of Health, asked some questions like did you go anywhere? did you meet anyone etc. nothing else, as i was in quarantine why'd i meet or go anywhere :D but still they asked for confirmation and my quarantine will end after 3 days.

Did you apply by yourself or any consultant? if you applied through consultant then please tell me his name or office name. Thanks
Only asked consultant to file my case to cic that's it, i applied for admission etc myself. Consultant only filed my case, once it was filed, i changed my GIC password and paid the visa filing fee. You can go to any consultant (but before, apply for admissions, make bank statement, pay fee etc it'd better to do yourself, but you can go to any competent consultant as well, there are many), then ask them file your visa, once they give you GIC pswrd etc, pay them the fee and make sure to change passwords, as you have paid the consultancy fee they have no rights to have your password.

Exactly! You're right @gursewak singh I agree with you.

You seem to be from India. I'm from India too.

Which airlines do you plan to book through, in case you're considering to travel?

Hello buddy!

I am also from India and I am admitted to University of Guelph for MEng Program (Fall 2020 Intake).

Do we have any option other than Air India? I understand that Vande Bharat Mission is the only possible solution for Indians.

Hi hi hi!!! :)

Hope you're doing well! These are crazy times now, right?

Same here - I'm also wondering whether we have any option other than Air India.

You're right, it seems like Vande Bharat Mission is the only option for us :(

Since they are denying boarding to students, I really don't know what to do.

I wish we can have a separate topic for travel & flights for Indians alone. I already tried creating such a thread but doesn't seem like anybody else has any information.

lol. so looks like you don't actually want to go to Canada then kindly don't discourage or provide false info to those who actually want to and did alot of hardwork in obtaining approval.

thx
A
It's not about me wanting or not wanting. And I'm certainly not discouraging or providing any false info here. Why would I do that?

There's real evidence that students are being denied boarding the flight, and have to beg the airline for refund of lakhs of rupees. You have been allowed to board the flight; that doesn't mean everyone else is being allowed to. There are denials.

I obtained my approval too, and trust me, in all probability, I have put in as much hard work as anyone else, if not more. I am admitted into a top-ranked publicly-funded University in a very selective master's program which has very high entry requirements - Canadian-Standard A average grades, and have scored very high in the GRE.

There's information on all fronts that says online is non-essential - My University's international student office, my phone calls with CBSA, and the recent IRCC notice about what is essential / non-discretionary.

I was clearly told by CBSA that since online studies for the fall are not affecting PGWP, travelling now makes it non-essential.

All these indicate that online is non-essential, unless everyone else can also get lucky and get entry into the country.

Also not to forget, students can be denied entry and then there's a real risk of getting stranded at some foreign airport with difficulty in getting a return flight back home. These are real risks. Not talking about them, or just because someone is allowed in, doesn't mean the risks will disappear.

And finally, a fellow master's degree student! So glad to know that! :)

Thanks for your response buddy!

And to be honest I am not doing well as I have already resigned from my current employment and my travel plan is in limbo.

Considering this situation, I came across a guy who got and admission to one of the College in Alberta and he managed to enter Canada on 24th Jun 2020. When, I spoke to him I realised that it is all about trying your fortune at the airports nothing else. But, I feel that testing fortune with ambiguous guidelines is not a wise decision. So, I am waiting for updates from IRCC.

And I am planning to Travel in the month of August or September. If you wish to be in touch request you to DM and I will share my cell number with you.

No no, please don't say thanks! We're all in the same situation here! I understand what you mean when you say not doing well. But I think since we're in a master's program, we should first feel proud that we have come this far. And just have to keep going, trying our best and hoping if we can't actually do anything at this time.

That itself is a big success during these crazy times! I'm also not particularly doing well, and I too feel terrible due to all this mess, even my plans are all messed up. But I try saying these positive things to myself to just keep going. Otherwise it gets too difficult.

I agree with you. Seems like it's all about testing our fortune. But how did this person travel from India? Air India is denying boarding right :( And isn't June too early for the fall entry?

Sure I'll DM, let's discuss any further updates that IRCC may come up with, hopefully.

bro i haven't decided yet. but planning for mid august.
for the airline i haven't decided yet but will see after 1st if the restrictions are extended or not.
for the purpose of reaching Canada if we have waited for so long , why not wait for few more days.
As the OP has reached Canada, No one can work in legal way unless study starts and health insurance too starts when the study starts and it will be just a wastage of money then going about one and half month earlier.
and there are reports of covid cases on flights, OP is lucky he reached safely. but we don't know if a passenger sitting near us may be a carrier of the disease so why take risks.
By the Way, IRCC is there who knows everything as deferring sept2020 to jan2021 will be a huge problem and everything is getting normal slowly so its better to wait.
and for the airlines you know Air India they denied boarding a PR about week or two ago also she was healthy with no symptoms so why take risk?
Eventually they will have to allow students to reach Canada
sorry for a long post
