COPR and coronavirus

We know that for sure now that they will give us extension but big worry for Indians is its going to take a long time.Because firstly flights have not started yet.Suppose they start in July then we will raise the web form.Now as per their current speed of respinding they might take 2 months to respond .Then they will send new ppr mail after another month.Then we will submit passports.And one more month to get it back.So acc to my estimate we might be able to land only after Sept or Oct.Thats too late .I just wish Ircc starts mailing fresh copr to all those with expired coprs.If they can give pr status to inland applicants by mail why cant they send us copr by mail.Any ways going to vfs for submission then again collecting them increases chances of virus spread .The can even send counter foil of passport on mail.All this faster and safer methods can be easily adapted.It will save a lot of time and risk.

NDVO will issue PPRs in bulk only. Those with expired CoPR by the time their office resumes will be dealt first and altogether. I don't think it will take that long, once they touch them.

I wish and hope you are right! I had mailed a person who had taken extension last year for other reason .He had provided his email id on the forum for further queries.He told it took him 3 months to get new ppr in hand.Though we would have already been waiting since 4 months so may be they do it faster.

Yes, you are right. Even I read the instructions. Immigrant Visa holder can never have visa valid for more than 1 year. So basically borders are closed and evacuation flights are mostly for citizens. Till the time commercial flights are shut, borders are closed for common people.

Also, I think that Canada has a right to get its citizens and established PRs out of India first. We're not PRs just yet. I don't know about others, but I would feel guilty as heck if I weaseled my way onto a flight that could take somebody else home.

Yup I agree with you. Even I think its totally fair to prefer its citizens or any close relative of a citizen stuck in India. After reading the 1 year limit it clearly shows that COPR holders are out. No COPR can have 1 year visa limit. So, we just need to sit tight and wait for the good news of extensions.

Hi guys, I would like to share my landing experience with you so that you may find it helpful!
Around the last part of April I heard about the chartered flights taking back cityzens and PRs. So I registered myself in the consulate (office in Bangladesh ) web sight. They said a flight may be arranged around the first week of May. But they remain silent upto 8th May. On 9th May 1.30am I got a mail from the consulate that a flight will be on 10th May 4.45 pm and if I am interested I have to purchase tickets as soon as possible. The news was a huge joy as well as a big pain for me because literally I had only a day left to book the tickets and also complete preparation .

Anyhow I managed both. On 10th May I started for Toronto via Doha. The plane was jam packed. There was no sign of social isolation. A total of 316 passengers flew. Reached Toronto at 7.30 am on 11th May. Here we faced some measures taken for covid19. 30 people were allowed to leave the aircraft in every 5 minutes. Though we were given the declaration forms in the aircraft that was of no use as we had to fill up electronically generated information instead! Then smoothly we entered crossing the boarder services. They showed us the immigration area and we went there. The immigration officer was so helpful. He asked us only about whether we have earlier applied for PR? Whether we have any other dependent? Where shall we quarantine? How shall we manage medicine if needed etc. Then he asked us to wait as he completes some formality. After 5 minutes he came back and took our sign on the COPR and signed himself and assured us that we are now PR in Canada. He told us that we shall receive our PR in our mail address and. PR card in our given address by 6 to 8 weeks.
Then we went to complete customs formalities. The officer ask for the list of goods to follow. And how mush fund we have. Not asked for any proof of fund. Even he didn’t check any luggage or ask for any other information.
The process was real smooth and hassle free. The best part was we were able to fly in a chartered flight. And everything ended nicely. By the way our COPR/PRV validity was upto 27th June.
At last I want to thank all of you as I followed this forum and it was a great help and also a place of hope in this unprecedented COVID19 situation.

Hi, congratulations on landing. Could you tell me how did you travel from the airport to your apartment? Were you allowed to take uber/cab or you had to get a personal car? I am planning to land in Toronto next week and its going to be my first landing so just want to be prepared.

what did that person get a copr extension for?

I thought they were quite strict on not being able to extend (apart from the pandemic exception), it says so on my copr.

My COPR expires in last week of july and personally I do not want to travel on evacuation flights that might be full. Also there is no flight from Mumbai to Delhi in the evacuation schedule.

Ditto. I have booked a flight too since AI people told me the same. However, I plan to use the publically available information on the page to substantiate my claim that I can travel. CoPR expires 23 June 2020 though.

Any ideas as to what else can be used and how we can get an email from CIC/High commission so fast ?

No such news has been released thus far about regular commercial airline travel out of India. The Railways cancelled all tickets booked to travel on or before June 30, so I assume, it may be a while until airlines become operational. Also, once air spaces operate, you're not going to be able to immediately fly; there may be ticket cancellations or other travel-related troubles.

I suggest that you set up a couple of Google Alerts with the keywords "International", "travel" and "India". Better still, turn them into an RSS feed and check them from your browser.

Hey, Just wanted to confirm. Publically it is written that only a person with valid visa for more than 1 year can travel and still you booked the ticket with visa expiring soon. I may have misunderstood the statement. Can you please explain?
