Hey guys, is it necessary (or possible) to get a bank account in Canada before landing? I'm going to land in Toronto, so looking for some suggestions about which bank to choose. I will have to transfer funds from US banks to Canada. Thanks!
Hi, It is POSSIBLE to open a bank account before your arrival. I've found three banks, but make sure to search on google for other options (TD, HSBC, and SCOTIA BANK).

Please check these links.

One can definitely open a bank account before landing in Canada. However, I believe one still has to visit the branch to activate his account which will not be possible during quarantine.

As per my understanding, these options are not available from US specially TD and Scotia. I have not tried HSBC yet.

just sharing the news update from my side, I saw the most of the HongKong IRCC issued COPR Holder who expired in March, Apr and will expire in May and June got the extend letter or re-PPR letter for extend the 5-6 months for the M1 & M3 original IME person and 3 months for the M2 IME person. . just for your reference.
Thanks...that's good news.
So you don't have to send the passports again for permanent resident visa? is it just a letter received thru myCIC account?

Thanks.

This is for COPR holder’s whose medicals have already expired?

Do you mind sharing the letter? After hiding all the personal info of course if possible.
medicals have already expired or will expire in soon. you'd better to have a look the Delivery Program https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/permanent-residence.html which has the guideline from official how to handle the cases with expired COPR. for the original IME result M1& M3 person will get additional 6 months.

sorry about I try to but fault to find the insert attachment pics, i only have the capture from others sharing ,
for my case I got the PPR directly, there is not the letter with date of new expire, only can know the new expired date when you got your new COPR with passport. that is why I said some of the person got the new extend letter and some person got the re-PPR directly. the letter as below for your reference

please note that we have re-issued the visa and confirmation of permanent residence, new visa validity is 2020/10/31. please find attached the new passport submission letter providing you 90 days to comply. please note that the previous visas and confirmation of permanent residence are not valid.

from the HK office.

Hey everyone. I've been reading this forum for a while but a few days ago (me and my girlfriend) successfully landed in Canada and wanted to share our experience with other users.

We were residing in the USA for a last few years and our COPR was issued at the beginning of January so we were under official Canada travel ban exemptions. We drove from Illinois to Montana where on the 7th of April crossed land border at the Sweet Grass/Coutts Port of Entry. Once we reached Canadian side we were said that they don't process COPR even though I called to CBSA hour before and they assured me there won't be any problem with landing in Canada. After answering many questions I was returned to US border to finish car export paperwork (I missed special gate for the car export so had to reenter US again to finish the process). Hour later we were at the canadian border again, this time we were greeted by a different custom officer who was very nice and everything went smooth until we were asked to come to the office in order to finish landing. Officers were very rude, mean and seemed frustrated of the fact we decided to land during pandemic. Bunch of questions were asked like "why today? Don't you see nobody is here?!!", about status in the US (which shouldn't matter!!), details about our application, proof of funds, goods brought to Canada and the most important !!!!proof of the address where we going to self isolatte for another 14 days!!!! This was the most important information asked, without which they would't have let us land!! If you are going to land anytime soon book a place in advance for at least 14 days. Finally we were asked to sign paperwork and ready to go to our destination.

Staying in Canada under self isolation is quite difficult right now since most of the grocery stores don't deliver groceries same day. The demand is so high that it takes them even 5-7 days to deliver groceries. Just make sure you have someone who can drop groceries especially when you are moving with kids.
Hi akrapovic,
did they revisit any eAPR questions, Like the question of whether you have ever been charged of a crime or offense?
Also, can you tell me more about the health assessment they are supposed to do now. Did they ask you any health questions?
I appreciate you sharing your experience, I will be landing soon and I want to be prepared.

As per my understanding and according to their respective websites:
  1. Scotia Bank: one can apply for an account online
  2. TD bank: you can only open up an account via call (available only in China, India and North America)
  3. HSBC allows opening up an account either online or via call
