No not since March 25th was the last approval for an August applicant. There has been no more updates since then for August or September on the spreadsheet
Oh ok, I thought you referring to our timeframe (most of us on this thread are Oct/Nov/Dec applicants). We don't expect AIP until late summer I'm supposing. That's why this delayed OWP approval is so frustrating because if they wait until AIP is granted in order to issue the OWP the PR approval comes only a few months later anyway so what's the point in having an OWP for like two months...ugh

Yes exactly. Its just proving that things at IRCC have slowed down dramatically. And Im with you on needing the Work Permit. Usually the AIP gets approved at the same time as the Decision is made and then a month or 2 later you have PR. Urgh is right.

When Manitoba eases distancing restrictions we should meet up for a beer and have a good ole IRCC vent session lol

Hi everyone,
Just wonder if anyone here is in the same situation with mine.
I first came here under study permit. Then I applied for PR under spouse sponsorship in Sept 2019, in which I specified that I wanted to include the OWP with this application and paid the OWP holder fee of $155. I got the approval in principle on Mar 13, 2020, right before the COVID shutdown, in which it said to wait for the appointment for final decision. I then now realized that I didn't include a OWP application form with my PR application. I applied on paper but then linked to an account. My study permit is going to expire end of Jun 2020. Here are some of my concerns:
- I think I should apply ONLINE for OWP just in case this COVID lasts forever and my legal status expires before I can get an appointment for my PR
- I couldn't find a way in my online account to apply ONLINE (ie. sending the OWP application IMM5710 and $100 work permit fee)
Does that mean I am not eligible to apply OWP online if I applied my PR on paper?
Should I apply for OWP on paper now given the situation? It looks like they encourage us to apply this online but I spent the whole day searching on web but nowhere I can find that I can apply through my existing account.:(

Hi. You got your AIP already! What date did you send your PR application?

If you already got AIP then that means you're almost definitely going to be approved for PR which usually comes a couple months after AIP so I wouldn't bother applying for an OWP. Because you didn't submit the OWP application at the same time as your PR application (and you didn't pay the additional $100 open work permit fee) you won't get an OWP and it means you'd have to submit and new application and during this covid situation, processing of a new work permit application would take well over 6 months! So I wouldn't bother applying for it.

Yes, in principle you could apply and you'd be on "Implied status" as it's being processed which is a good back up if your PR is rejected but you've already got AIP which means you've got like a 98% chance you'll get your PR!

That's crazy fast! Are you sure you got an official email saying you've been "Approved in Principle"?
I got a letter saying I meet all eligibility requirements and the processing of my application has been completed. And IRCC will contact me to arrange an appointment to finalize the case. I thought 6 months is pretty normal?

Thanks. I am just worried given the situation of the pandemic if my study permit expires in 2 months and I don't get the PR by then I won't have a legal status to stay. So applying for a OWP will give me an implied status just to be sure I have a status no matter what.

you are lucky. thats very fast.

According to the spreadsheet no one in September as got AIP yet... I would wait for PR rather than submitting another WP application.

6 months is fast, usually you get AIP around month 10 and then another two months until it's final! You are very very lucky. I'm at month 5 and my eligibility hasn't even started! Makes me want to cry actually...sigh...

Do you get implied status on any work permit applications or is it just when they're submitted with a PR app? If you do, then Yes, you're right, you would have implied status while your OWP is being reviewed. But like I said there's like a 95% + chance your PR will be finalized so I'd save your money.
