To visit family and/or friends v. Tourism

My parents are applying for Visitors Visa. When checking for their eligibility to apply, I’m wondering what answer should they choose for the question – “What is the main purpose of your visit?” Whether “To visit family and/or friends” or “Tourism”.

I am an international student and they want to visit me here in Canada and also to see the sights.

As international student, you can request for an official letter from the registrar confirming your enrolment with the school. That is if your school does that. Some school make this available on the website or portal. After this, you will write a letter of invitation, stating when, why, where they will be staying/accommodation arrangement. Who will be responsible for their living expenses while in Canada. And many more reasons. Just like a citizen or PR holder will do. You will attach clear copy of your valid study permit to be submitted along with the application. It is better to go for family visitor in their case than tourism. The chances is high. Especially, if they are the one responsible for your finance in Canada.

Here s a simple test:
Would your parents visit still if you were not in Canada? If no, answer to visit family
Would your parents visit still if the sights were not in Canada? If no, answer tourism

Hi guys I am a student in Australia and my wife recently received her Canada PR and i am a non-accompanying spouse. Since she wants to do a soft landing and arrange initial stuff like SiN , bank account and all I want to accompany her to help her and and 2-3 days for tourism around toronto we will be staying at my uncles house have his invitation letter also we plan to stay total days in Canada 11 days what are my chances of getting TRV will show my return tickets as well

Couldn't you change your status as accompanying spouse? She don't even need to arrange those stuff during the soft landing and can wait until moves in permanently.

We dont wanna complicate it plus i dont have plans to move now i just wanna accompany her for 11 days to make it easier for her and go back to Australia as my course gets over in August 2020 only

I think you have a good chance of being approved of a TRV. Although there is no assurance to all applications, you having a return ticket shows your intention of leaving Canada. Thus, you have a big chance of getting approved.
