Yes. Pnp was through employer. Rejection was something like wrong application.

Maybe should have applied for closed work permit?

You should have applied for close work permit because you nomination is tied to an employer. If you were a post graduate student you could have applied under open work permit.
They usually give you 90 days to restore your status.

Yes you should have applied for specific employer work permit ( closed work permit ) and your employer needs to pay a small fee
