hello,
i am a refugee and im currently living in toronto. Its been a year i have filed my case and have not heard about the decision as of yet. So my question is how long does it usually takes to process these cases.

I would recommend that you join this thread:

great.
i couldn't find my answer in that thread, so i'm going to as it to you. i have been known this girl for 4 years now and she just got her PR(outside canada) and she will be moving to canada soon. And after she moves here we are planning to get married. Could you please advise me what are the possibilities of her sponsoring me. Do cic has any problem with my status.

Well the case is very simple, since you already submitted your refugee case and its in process. The fact that you are going to marry this girl is going to make the case seem fake and not a bonafide refugee. Because in the eyes of the IO you first applied as refugee which means you are fleeing persecution, secondly marriage will make it seem that in the event your refugee case fails you are making a back up plan to stay in this country either ways. IOs dont see this favorably and your future could possible be hanging in the air for several years.

okay newtone. i totally understand what you said. So is there a way to drop the refugee status? and switch it to student?

There is no difference it still will look bad on your file and make you look like a fake refugee claimant.

No - this won't work.

To be approved for a study permit, you must demonstrate that you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans to remain in Canada long term. Your refugee case will make this impossible to prove.

I am also a Refugee and filed my claim an year ago. According to the IRB we are called legacy claimants and they are giving priority to refugees on the new system.

It will take longer time for to get our hearings scheduled as I am also helplessly waiting for it.
