I emailed our local MP office and they advised that files that are sent to the local office incur additional wait times of 12-18 months! My file was transferred in April 2019 so they're saying I won't get my PR until April 2020-October 2020 now?!

Surely this is wrong!!

No, it depends why it was transferred: "workshare/workload redistribution" or "further assessment". Only further assessment transfers would incur additional wait times.

Thanks! I emailed them again and also contacted IRCC about this advice because there's no way another 12-18 months is acceptable! They haven't even started my background check yet so it's most likely workshare/workload redistribution but we will wait and see.

There are no red flags in our application that I know of!

From my research it seems to be pretty standard for your own file to be transferred to your local office for the final third of the process. Since SA mine has been at the Vancouver office and I fully expect to have to wait until past the 12 month point to get my landing interview because they are soo backlogged. I have also noticed that some stages don't get updated on Ecas or gckey, I have DM on Ecas yet no letter and AIP letter but gckey says assessing your eligibility. To sum up, these "local office"rumours are getting out of hand and the truth is there is no rhyme or reason as to why some applications run way faster than others, we just have to be patient. If you have nothing flagged then I'm sure we'll all get to the finish line. Just my 10 pence worth, a f it's any help ;)

My file was transferred on Apr 25 to the Kitchener office after SA (Feb 28) and I haven't heard anything from them. Online it says eligibility review is going on and background has not been started. One year is up on Aug 30, 2019. Ordered the notes, but nothing in there either. Waiting is all I can do now.
We have the (almost) same timeline. Let's stay in touch and keep each other posted. One year for my spouse is up on Aug 25, 2019. (File was transferred locally on April 24 to Kitchener. SA Mar 7)

We’re twins! Maybe we have the same agent, who prefers just making updates on ecas and sending an AIP letter while neglecting GCKey... I guess this is maybe just how Vancouver does it, haha.

There is no way! What could possibly take that long.. I think the information is incorrect, maybe they meant 12-18 months total if it needs further assessment. Typically transfer to local office is to finish up the application but that can take a few months.

I was told that my file was transferred London (my local office) on May 1. I called my MP's office who called to check it out and the agent told him it must have been transferred because they need further assessment and was ALSO told it would take 18-24 more months!!!!..I then called an agent, myself, a week or so later and he found where it was transferred to London, ON for "workload redistribution". Unless you've gotten an email or letter stating otherwise, then I think yours has been transferred for the workload, too. I understand your frustration. I'm tired of my stomach churning and not being able to sleep.

I'm thinking just because it says "BGC not started" doesn't necessarily mean that's true..at this point, surely they've started it.

If they are doing a criminal check then why did I have to supply an FBI Police Certificate up front? Just curious.
