You likely made an incorrect selection, as immigration fees are not required for non-accompanying dependents. IRCC then has to go through the hassle of refunding the fees.

Yes, you are correct.
At that time we were careful with our selections and remember thinking it was just a ' cash cow ' .
I have since checked back and noticed they refunded my Visa card many months later
without any messages or notifications.

So to clarify no upfront fees other then medicals for non-accompanying dependants?

For non accompanying over 18 those I believe require a police check (explained in the guide and on the document checklist)..
