DM is followed by PPR, or is a refusal letter still possible?

Hi everyone,

A week ago ECAS changed to DM. We only have 5 weeks left til his medical expires, and we're a family of 5 moving to Canada... so much to do in so little time. I'm hesitant to start preparing because several years ago his application was refused (I wrote about that history in another thread, somewhere in this forum). This time I believe we're on the right path, but I'm still scared. He got the pre-arrival letter a couple of months ago, but then a request for more documents after that.

Does anyone know about a refusal after a simple DM on ecas?

I don't know about your timeline, but it normally takes a year so you should have about one year to prepare and that would be enough time for you.

Also, in your subject, you said DM which means Decision Made, whereas in your content, you said Pre-arrival. There two are not equivalent. DM is much more toward the end of the process, whereas at Pre-arrival stage, you could be rejected with higher probability. Even though I cannot guarantee there would be no rejection after DM, I bet it would be very rare.

Thanks for your reply! We are April 23 applicants (he is). LVO. My husband received pre-arrival a couple of months ago, and then a request for new police certs right after. We were excited with the pre-arrival because when his visa was refused in the past, we hadn't received that. This time around things are different, but there are still so many complications. So I'm scared of preparing for the move and then experiencing devastation again. I really want to move my fam to Canada and raise our kids in my country. But just over five weeks now til his medical expires, so time is ticking. So much to do if the answer is yes. It does seem positive though, doesn't it.

Pre-arrival letter is definitely a positive sign which normally means your relationship is genuine and passed eligibility. But there are still many other steps after, e.g., background check etc. which could take some time. No need to worry, just be prepared to wait patiently. If needed, IRCC would request you redo the medical, otherwise, stay put.

OK, thanks!
Btw, do you have any idea how long LVO or any office in general takes to email you after DM? It's been a week now, and no sign of approval or refusal.

No, I don't have any ideas and I was told it is a very busy VO so you should expect the whole process will take about one year. I know it is already over a year for you, but remember your case is very different from an ordinary case (according to your touchy story), so it may take longer. I hope you would hear from IRCC soon.

DM can mean positive or negative but if you did not receive a procedural fairness letter, you are pretty much guaranteed a positive outcome.

Check your spam/junk mail! :)

Thanks, sounds positive! What is a procedural fairness letter? We didn't receive one before his pr was refused in the past.

Oh. Weird. It’s a letter asking you to explain something because they doubt something. Alternatively, they ask for interviews too but that is usually when the relationship is in question.

If you have received pre-arrival services letter ,the DM is usually the positive one. Don't worry.

I've been looking through the threads and, indeed, they seem to send this letter, or invite to an interview, before a refusal! Our first application was in 2012 and the refusal in 2014, and it could be that the process was different then. I feel like there is light at the end of the looooong tunnel now! :)
