Awaiting PR card..need to travel

Hi everyone,
I am currently waiting formy first PR card..and need to travel abroad soon. Can I travel (by plane) and return back to Canada without the PR card?
I am not from a visa exemp country.

No you would need PRTD to enter Canada directly. Alternatively, if you have a valid US visa you can enter via a US land border.

I am in Canada.COPR is valid until Sept 2019.Is it okay if I postpone going to border as landing and go abroad on my scheduled time in April and come back to Canada and do the landing at that time? How would that work?

Yes that's possible. When you come back landing formalities will be done at airport.
