My parents (dad-US citizen and mom-US GC holder) moved out of their California apt in August 2019 and came visit me in Windsor, Ontario, with a plan to re-locate closer to me (Detroit area) after a few months.

It has been 5.5 months they’ve been in Canada now and we’ve driven to Detroit for a day a couple of times in the last week to check out apartments there for them without any issues at both borders. They’re finally moving to an apt there on Feb 1.

My only question is.. My parents intend to visit me pretty often now (like on alternate weekends) and I will be visiting them too. Although my mother is on the safe side where her GC is concerned as she didn’t stay out of the US for more than 6 months at a stretch, I know about some Canadian rule where a GC holder can only stay in Canada for 6 months or something.

Since my mother has already stayed in Canada for 5.5 months, does this mean she only has 15 more days remaining in the rolling period August 2018-August 2019 to visit me in Canada?

Or will she be able to continue visiting me now for 1-2 days every 2 weeks or so without being questioned by Canadian border officials about it?

6 month rule applies to your father as well. Would consider travelling with a copy of their lease to prove they are living in the US. A bit extreme but not a huge hassle. If travelling a few weekends a month they shouldn't have a problem.

Yeah actually I meant for both. Since they’ve already stayed 5.5 months, they can only visit me for 15 more days now in their upcoming visit in this year?

No every time they leave the clock resets. If CBSA feels that you are spending too much time in Canada they can refuse entry or limit how long you can remain versus the full 6 months. If your parents are going for occasional weekends it should be fine.
