I just have read what everyone else is saying about visitor extension when you apply for PR and OWP. I applied for visitor extension before applying for PR and received on Nov 1st and now I have AOR but no answer for the extension. Does that mean I should just cancel the visitor extension now since they are processing my PR and OWP applications ?
No your case is different, I did the same too, applied for visitor visa extension BEFORE applying for PR and OWP to gain implied status so I would be able to apply for OWP in the first place.
In the other cases discussed they are applying for visitor visa extension AFTER applying for PR and OWP and they already got their AOR, it's irrelevant to their case and they'll probably get their OWP before hearing anything back about their visitor visa extension

It's been two months and a half since you applied for your visitor visa extension so you should probably hear something in 3 months meaning next month you'll get news about it before your OWP

Thanks for the kind reply. I didn’t really have to apply for it since my original visitor permit is good till the end of this month and I got my AOR in the early December but someone wrote on the other site that she couldn’t get the open work permit because her visitor was already expired before the day she got the work permit. It’s very confusing that’s why I applied for it just in case anything bad happens lol

Oh then yeah you shouldn't have of applied because as long as your visitor visa was still valid when you applied for PR and OWP then you are good and OWP gives implied status when visitor visa expires
I thought your situation was like me, my visitor visa expired before applying for PR and OWP so I had to extend it and apply

What sucks in my situation is that I didn’t put my police check in the PR and OWP applications so I have to wait till I get requested it and that might delay for the OWP...

Nah I don't think that affects OWP, you should receive your OWP in 4 months, if it took longer than that you should call CIC because then it would have of exceeded the normal processing times

Hey all.
I am going to post my experience with visitor extension while applying for OWP and sponsorship.
It’s not necessary to apply for visitor extension as long as you send your sponsorship application + work permit before your visitor status expires. The open work permit will give you implied status.
HOWEVER:
It is smart to apply for a visitor extension if your status is going to expire before your work permit can get accepted (3-4 months). This is because if your application were to get sent back, the work permit gets put on hold and you are no longer on implied status. If your visitor visa had already expired and you are after your restoration date- you could be put in a tough situation.
This is unlikely but in case the application were to be sent back due to errors I had applied for an extension in October ( one month before i sent the sponsorship application) and it got approved beginning on January. - as long as you write the reason why you want an extension is to ensure you maintain legal status during the entire process of your application, you should be okay.
Thanks! Hope I helped.

You can cancel it If it has not started being processed.

Ok ive managed to get through to CIC (finally!). So they are currently processing applications up to 4th of january. This means for all of us who haven't heard anything that they have forgotten to send out AOR's. The nice lady from CIC confirmed this to me. They have entered all the details into the system but she couldn't confirm whether my Application was 100% correct however she is firing of an email to the processing centre asking for an update on my file as I haven't heard anything and I should have already.

So get in touch with them. I rang 1-888-242-2100 options 2-1-0. I was in a queue for approx 25 minutes. Ensure that your Sponsor is present as they want to speak to him to confirm details

You should do your medicals, anything they request you send.

However, visitor extension and open work permit doesn't allow re-entry.
It'll state on the documents in big letters "THIS DOCUMENT DOESN'T ALLOW RE-ENTRY"

He's from South Africa so he's not visa exempted and that makes it very risky, he needs to apply for a new visitor visa from Canada or abroad and 90% it'll get rejected because they know he has a spouse in Canada and even if it got accepted it's still risky and up to the CBSA officer to allow re-entry at the border.
Re-entry mostly works with people who are visa exempted, it's very much easier for them.
For Inland applicants, CIC advices all applicants to stay in Canada during the whole process, and if an applicant left shouldn't stay away for long (one week is best)
I advice not to leave for any reason whatsoever even if he was lucky and got granted visitor visa again because if your husband wasn't allowed re-entry for any reason then your Inland application gets jeopardized.
I wouldn't risk it

Thanks but he has a ten year multiple entry visa so I am sure it will be ok???

Nope haven't received AOR yet hence why I called them. The processing center has added all the details of my application into the system but hasn't send out an AOR.

The lady told me that they are currently processing application received up to january 4th whatever that means
