Y’all. I’m losing my mind here. Does anyone have any idea of timeframes from London Visa Office for receiving CoPR after DM, and how it will arrive (email as well as sent in the post?). My husband is from the UK, so Visa exempt.

We are just over six weeks since DM on ECAS, we got pre-arrival services email around then too, and the automated number we’ve been calling (no access to gc-key) updated 9 days ago to say our application has been approved.

So frustrating waiting and not hearing anything concrete or official, other than the pre-arrival services email 6+ weeks ago!

I'm surprised people from UK even need to be sponsored. Anyways, that's the London office for you Lol. All you can do is wait. I would think the COPR would come by mail, and if being issued in Canada and being sent to you, as you know, Canada post strike is really slowing things down. Stay patient. You've made it this far! Merry Christmas and congratulations

That is taking quite a while. It will be issued from London (England) and arrive in the Royal Mail. Might be worth ordering your case notes.

Thank you @Hurlabrick We ordered our case notes Oct 17th as well as Nov 26th, and have heard nothing yet. I also send a case specific inquiry regarding this the third week of November, and then another one yesterday (which is what the agent said was the best thing to do when I finally got through on the phone yesterday). No actual responses other than the automated one (the response we got after the case specific inquiry in November says they have marked a response as 'priority'....).

It just seems so weird that we have known the outcome for so long and yet have absolutely nothing as proof, so we are still in limbo and can't make any definite plans.

In our case, it took us about a week from DM to view the update in our electronic case file and just under 2 weeks to receive the CoPR in the post. It was sent via registered Royal Mail.

Hope you receive it very soon,

We received our CoPR today!!!

It was sent by Royal Mail to our immigration consultant here in Canada. ‍♀ SUCH a relief to have it in our hands.

We are now going to plan a trip back to Scotland in January to pack up the house and put it up for sale. Is it wiser to NOT land yet here in Canada, and do it on entry back into the country when we return? Or would my husband be able to fly back to Canada using his British passport as usual, even though he will not yet have his PR card if he were to land here next week?

Congratulations!!! PHEW!!

First of all, check the expiry date on the CoPR and make sure whatever you do, that you land before that date. Yes, MUCH wiser NOT to land until your planned Scotland trip if you can. When you land, they will automatically start the ball rolling on his PR Card (as long as you can supply a Canadian address for them to mail it to). BUT, it can take 3 / 4 months to actually arrive.

Note, your husband CANNOT easily fly out and back into Canada once he has landed without a PR Card. The problem is that once you land and apply for a PR Card, his existing ETA will be cancelled (as he is now a PR), and he cannot apply for a new ETA as he is a PR. BUT the airlines will not allow you to board a plane to Canada without one of:

1. Valid PR Card
2. ETA (which you cannot get)
3. PRTD (temporary PR Travel Document)

Simply showing them a stamped copy CoPR will not do.

The alternative may be to fly back to a US airport and have someone pick him up and drive through a Canadian border, as CBSA can check a copy CoPR on their system (whereas airlines have no such access or authority).

….and no, CBSA will not 'automatically' issue you with a PRTD (faaaarrrrr to much of a sensible idea!). These can only be applied for in the Canadian Embassy of the country you have travelled to (i.e. London for the UK). You need to complete the forms, provide all the required documents, pay a fee and wait days or weeks - so probably also not a great idea.

Thank you so very much for this clear and complete answer, @Hurlabrick ! This is super helpful! (and something that our grossly overpaid immigration consultant was unable to do for a single one of our questions throughout this process). I appreciate it immensely!

Hi everyone! First time posting on this thread but been following for a few months now :) Thought I'd give an update with dates from our experience. I'm Canadian living in London, UK and sponsoring my British common-law partner. Looking to move back to Canada together end of 2019. Here are our timelines so far (we're doing this ourselves, no immigration lawyers involved):

21 May 2018 - Application mailed from London, UK to Mississauga
4 June 2018 - Application delivered/signed for
27 July 2018 - Application started
28 July 2018 - Confirmation of application received
17 August 2018 - Request for medical
29 August 2018 - Medical done
21 August 2018 - Approval for Sponsorship
7 December 2018 - Visa Office CPC Mississauga
14 December 2018 - Visa Office London

Looks like it can be several more months from here before we get CoPR, but hopefully we get it before summer! Will keep you posted.

Thank you for your timeline, I have added this to the spreadsheet. Just post further updates on this thread and I will spot them and update as required.

I would have thought you could hope for approval and CoPR maybe March-ish (when things do start to move, they will likely move quickly!)
