Hi there,

I have a question regarding income to be eligible to sponsor my Mom. I have 5 members in my family (3 kids, wife and myself). According to the information from Government website income for 5 persons family should be $65,377 for 2016, $66,654 for 2016 and $67400 for 2018. I meet the requirement for 2017 and 2018, but my income is only about $47,000 for 2016. My question is: Do I have to wait to get make sufficient income for 2019 and apply in 2020 or there is any other way? My Mom is currently in Canada on visitor visa and ideally I would like to submit her sponsorship early 2019. I work in unionized organization with 100% reliability and stability. Can this be an advantage for my application?

Thanks in advance

As said above, you have to show enough income to cover 6 people (not 5). Yes - you have to meet the income requirements for the three preceding years to apply. No - you won't be able to apply in 2019. The fact you work for a unionized organization isn't relevant.

Note that IF your mother has a living spouse or common-law partner, you must include them in your family size calculation. That would be 7 persons, not just 6.

Thanks Scylla. But my Mom did not live in Canada in 2017. She arrived in November 15, 2018. Why income should be for 6 people if she was not here ?

Where she was living is irrelevant.

You must show enough income to cover your current family as well as the parent / grandparent you are sponsoring. In your case, this means you must have enough income to cover 6 people for the preceding three years to qualify to sponsor.
