Sponsoring wife's child from previous husband

Hello,

We are not married, just in communication so we can get to know each other better. My girlfriend had a husband but they are now divorced, they had a child together and the child is 5 years old. If we were to get married, would the child be sponsored to Canada at the same time or would it be a longer wait? I don't want to look into marriage if I would be breaking her from her child for such a long time.

She would need full custody from the courts or permission from the father for the child to immigrate to Canada.
