We applied in May this year (I'm sponsoring my wife - we got married outside Canada), did our medical and all that and submitted it in. We applied overseas but we just arrived in Canada (I came back first so I can start job hunting). She'll be flying back home next month then back to Canada again after a few weeks.

We just got a physical mail that contain two identical copies of a letter that said 'Confirmation of Permanent Residence'. (Our family accepted the package for us back home and took photos of it and sent it to us) One had a photo of her, one did not. But bother were confirmation of permanent residence.

But that was it. We had no other communication or email about what to do next or what to do with these letters.

I googled and found that this is the paper that you hand in once you land in Canada, starting the confirmation of the PR process. (We don't write or sign anything on this paper before hand right?)

I also read about how once you land, you will not be able to fly out and back into Canada again (since you will not be eligble for the tourist visa, which is what my wife is currently using). She would need to stay in Canada until she gets her PR card. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the timing is around Chinese New Year (but we'll sort it out).

The main question that I have is should be another piece of letter or communication coming explaining our next steps?

Thanks!

There's not much else to it. She lands with that document. Just delay landing until after Chinese NY, as long as it's within COPR expiry date, so you don't have to deal with the PR card issue.

Cool, gotcha. So no need for interviews or signing anything? Just land in Canada and it's all good?

Thanks!

If anyone else any thoughts or suggestions, feel free to share. Thanks all. This board has really been helpful!
When you arrive at primary immigration, go to a manned counter and show your COPR. They will forward you on to secondary immigration where you will complete the landing process. Takes about 15 minutes + queuing time. Don't leave airside without completing this step.

If anyone has a scan of the instructions that *should* have been supplied, maybe they can get them to you. Mine are 5 years old, so not current.

She can also apply for a PR Travel Document before her PR card arrives to ease her travels in/out of Canada.

Likely easier to delay landing if there's upcoming travel
She's in Canada now with planned travel next month. If she leaves the country, comes in on a visa, and then CBSA finds "landing required' in their system, that complicates the matters a bit, right? Can she delay an entry at a Point of Entry just because?

The landing has to be done by expiry date and is otherwise optional.
