Hello, thank you for taking the time. My husband is currently unemployed, has not had a job for many years as he's been in medical school therefore he has no income. I have worked throughout. Can he file for me to get permanent residency? We would like to start the process, so that when he graduates medical school.. we can move to Canada for him to work. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you again!

I assume both you and your husband are outside Canada. Assuming he is a Canadian citizen, he can sponsor you while you both are living outside of Canada. However, he will need to provide a concrete and well thought out plan on how both of you will move to Canada and start a new life there. "Figuring it out later" will not fly. Where will you live? How will you two support yourself? Things like signing a lease for an apartment in Canada, looking for employment in Canada, letters of support from family member in Canada, etc all look good. They also assume that the move will happen shortly after the application is all finalized. So if he still has another year or two left for school, it would be best to wait.

Yes, he can sponsor you while unemployed. There is no minimum income requirement. You guys can show any combination of your income and income potential, his income potential, savings, family assistance etc. You should have no issues.
