Can primary applicant come back after a week or 2?

Hi Helping Members,

I am planning to move along with my family in November. Got the PR for myself, my wife and 2 kids.

My Wife is a primary applicant.

I have a situation wherein I want to land in Canada with my whole family in November. However my wife along with kids might have to come back as my parents are unwell and might not be able to take care on their own.

I just need to understand if this is possible? and what would be the process?
How soon can she get back to India? and if there is any time bound limit wherein she along with the kids has to return in Canada (after how many months)?

Yes, it's possible.

and what would be the process?
Book tickets and fly.

How soon can she get back to India?
Once she finishes her landing formalities and gets the SIN number, she can take the next flight back home.

and if there is any time bound limit wherein she along with the kids has to return in Canada (after how many months)?
No, but to maintain your PR status, you need to stay a minimum of 2 years out of the 5 year period starting from the day you land.

In addition to what @Varunaimar said, I want to add a critical info:
If you leave Canada before you receive your PR card, you will have to apply for PRTD (Permanent Resident Travel Document) in India before you travel back to Canada and be allowed back into Canada, even if your PR status was confirmed upon initial landing the first time.

Other solution is to receive your wife and kid's PR Card, and mail it to them in India. Risk of losing it in the mail though...

To add that people mail or preferably courier PR cards outside of Canada all the time. So yes whilst they could get lost a lot less hassle probably than applying for a PRTD . If they do get lost you just report the fact, apply for PRTDs when ready to return to Canada, and apply for new cards when back in the country.

As per previous poster critical family meets the residency obligation 2 years out of 5 so should only stay away for maximum just short of 3 years and even then would need to stay put in a Canada for 2 years without leaving.
