Hello all, we would be moving to Ontario (Mississauga, Brampton or Oakville) by September this year. I have heard from some people that generally house rentals in Canada or specifically Ontario start from the 1st of the month and it might be difficult to rent an apartment in the middle of the month. Can people already living there advice on the accuracy of this information as I would be booking flight tickets based on that (either towards the end of August - if rentals start from day 1 - or early September - if apartments can be rented in the middle of the month).

Also, it would be great if you could let me know the contact details of some good property agents so that I can start to contact them right away. The third thing would be advice on which city is better to live in (Mississauga, Brampton or Oakville). We are a family of 3 with a four year old boy.

Cheers!

Yes - rentals start on the 1st of the month. Yes - very hard to find rentals that start mid month.

You should not rent a place in advance of moving to Canada. Move to Canada first and stay somewhere temporary for a month or two. Get to know the site and see places to rent in person before committing to a long term lease.

Very easy to find rentals that start mid month in Calgary, though.

It's fine to rent a place in advance before the move to Canada especially if you know the neighborhood.

All locations are fine. Budget and availability will factor into your choice of location. I would look at access to public transportation if you are not planning on buying a car.

Thanks all for your replies. Any suggestions on temporary accommodations for the first few days?
