So I'm applying for a study permit extension from inside Canada, school is about to start and I'm still in waiting. The program I applied for does not allow deferrals, so I was thinking of applying for another program I was interested in (it starts in Jan, and I am likely to get this because I got an offer of acceptance earlier this year). Would I need to contact IRCC for anything? Or since it's at the same DLI, would it be all good?

Also would I have to leave Canada and come back later in the year, or would that be (hopefully) unnecessary?

Yes, I know I can still go to school because of my maintained status, but my parents are telling me not to, that I should wait till the permit is approved (so that's out of the question until I can convince them otherwise). Any and all advice is welcome!

Google - change DLI and read the IRCC rules on changing programs within same DLI. Why can't you continue studying if not changing DLI and program?

So you would be starting over with a new program. Is it PGWP eligible?

It said it's fine, but the circumstances given were if the given study permit is still valid. Since I don't have it yet, I don't know if that changes things and will mess up the application, especially since I might have to withdraw from program A.

I want to switch programs currently, but my parents don't want me to keep going to program A and pay tuition for that half, if I'll end up switching to program B, something like that. It's a whole mess of things and I can't really change their minds since they're helping me a lot here.

So if you can continue studying then there should be no issue. You can study with same program while waiting for approval.

As for switching programs that is between your parents.

Sorry, beating a dead horse here, but I wouldn't need to contact IRCC about the change right? especially since I'll be out of school for a few months?

So what are you doing until January as IRCC can cancel your permit since you are no longer a student and dropped out. Get a lawyer.
