Hi all!

So i'm an international student in canada in university. i finished my first year (2016-2017) only completing 2 courses and then completed 2 other courses during summer 2017. Due to my low overall grades, i'm now on academic suspension.

I have super strict parents and i'm terrified of them finding out that i'm suspended so i lied and said that my program requires 6 years, which they believed (lying sounds horrible, but i'm going through a tough time and my parents are so strict, if they knew the truth they would be so tough on me and everything would be 1000% worse). Now the problem is i have to change my status from student to visitor. I can't go back to china cause then my parents will find out. So i'm applying for a status change to stay in canada during suspension. In the application they ask who or where i'm gonna visit. I have to have somewhere to visit and have something to do. What can I do during my year off that's legal and will be approved by them as a visitor?

Thanks everyone!

well your first challenge with the visitor route will be how to show you can support yourself financially for a year and then whether you get visitor status for more than 6 months.

Honestly there is no route other than telling the truth and facing consequences that will result in any positive outcome for you!

I understand the problem, Asian/Indian parents can be unreasonably strict and often unsupportive.

But the adult thing to do is own up and face the consequences

You will also need to reapply for a new study visa which will likely require updated information. Not sure how you will explain that to your parents if you need things like their financial information. I understand this is a tough situation but I think it will be worse if they find out later.

I don’t know how did you do now,but you can apply for a listed designed institution that has lower requirement for a year like a college or something, and stay full time there. However you will need tuition fees, but ideally some of the course credit may be transferable.

Mine is crazy...I school in Canada.. Came here 2015 may and took summer courses... my visa expires 2019 September 4th..I was suspended may 2018(this month)..I heard the government will know by September or November.. I'm planning to leave for the time I'm suspended (one academic year (September 1st 2018 to august 31st 2019)) and come back next year August shortly before my visa expires and renew it from within canada... any suggestions?

are you required to drop for one year or suspended? cause if you are required to drop you may apply for other institution(listed institution of course), and stay there as a full time student until your suspension end, and transfer the transferable course credit back to your school, but that will require tuition fees. If your parent are not as strict, you can tell them the truth, or tell them you want to take a break for a year, and apply for visiting visa at home, or as you say come back shortly before your visa expire and extent it here. However, I do recommend you to talk to some professional people, or the international advisors at school, to get some better ideas.

Suspended..I'm suspended... the school won't accept credits done during the one year I'm being suspended.. that means if I take courses at another school in Canada or elsewhere during the time I'm suspended, when they take me back next year, they won't accept the credit.. what do I do.. and yes my parents are very strict.. when i say im leaving the country I'm actually going to the Caribbean to work.. not back to my home country.. my dad will kill me.. I can never tell him.. what to do?

well, if you got extra money and your study permit allowe, you may still apply for other school and take the cheapest courses to stay a full time student, and then work part time to keep your expenses, you may still ask money from your parents since you are still “ attending the school”. This sounds much safer than go to another unfamiliar country and work there. However, this only applies if your parents don’t have any direct contact to your school.

Given your academic probation I would be concerned that you may not get your visa extended. Have you considered switching to another program at another school for good?

I'm in A lot of trouble.. with just one year and some months visa left.. owing 16000 $ to school and not being able to register in September due to fees owing and suspension..I have limited options.. thinking of going to work in the Caribbean for 11 or 10 or 8 months and coming back before my visa expires (when I am removed from suspension)
