Hello everyone! I have been reading the forums for a few months now in preparation for sponsoring my soon to be spouse, but we are facing a situation that i don't know if it might affect our application, therefore i am reaching out for any help possible since i don't have any experience.
We have been together for 1 year and are very very happy, however, she is from japan, and is currently married, and divorce there is very difficult. She has been living separated from him and trying to file for divorce for 4 years now with no success but has finally come close to obtaining it since the guy has agreed to payment in exchange for divorce. She is planning to come here right after signing the divorce papers and we will marry and apply for sponsorship right away.
I am seeking for any help and information on this manner if anyone can give some input. Are there any complications that we could be facing?? Would we need additional paper work? Would it be a good idea to get a lawyer? I think we could do the basic paper work ourselves but would it be safer to get one? Any information would be super helpful!! Also, we were thinking of doing an outside application, but she would be living in Canada as a visitor while the process is going on. Her visitor visa would be valid for 6 months, so we would have to figure out a way for her to stay as a visitor for the 1 year, do you guys have any recommendations for this by any chance? Thank you guys in advance so much. We love each other and are doing our best to make this happen!
