I'm glad to hear your students also went to SUCCESS! Maybe she got a new or inexperienced facilitator. And you can still visit Manitoba even if you aren't settling here if you do, I'll show you around!

We also have a partnership with PrepCan. It is a recent partnership, so I don't have tons of feedback, but they seem very responsive and energetic, which we appreciate. Their program is very structured, it's provided at a national level so I'm curious about how they help out for specific job markets in each city.

Yes it was SUCCESS. It put me down for the whole day yesterday because I truly thought I could get a QA job and he just told me that I wouldn't be able to in Canada, with the certifications I had gotten. But the email today got me hyped up and excited and it gave me confidence that I can get that kind of job. I mean, I've only applied for one job, and got an interview already (to be scheduled). It did come as a surprise to me, because I specifically told him I had been a QA Analyst here for a year, although I'm realistic and know I wouldn't get a QA Analyst position in Canada just yet. He kept telling me to search for the qualifications needed, and the requirements and all that. But I don't think this would reflect their work, it was just this person who wasn't paying attention to what I was telling him. In any case, I hope with all my might I can get this job, and if I can get it even before arriving, that would be a marvelous and huge blessing.

Fingers crossed that you will, but many of us have to work other jobs before finding something in our field, and sometimes it takes even years. Again, I hope that is not your case and that this interview will lead to something solid but maybe the guy was trying to be over-cautious.

Thanks! You're very kind most of us in pre-arrival organizations are also immigrants and refugees, and we remember how tough it can be to settle in a new country and start your career from scratch. Let me know what you think of PrepCan! I'm hoping you'll like them a lot

Fingers crossed that you will, but many of us have to work other jobs before finding something in our field, and sometimes it takes even years. With all the things I've gone through in my short life (23 years), that would be catching a break! A well deserved one. I am sure that once I am with my wife for good, life will be something enjoyable and happy. Just a few more days (I hope). Hanging in there.

i received this pre arrival letter almost 3 months ago and nothing yet. last month i emiled them they said its in qeue for further review. im so nervous. dont know whats going on. i had my inteview 1 week before getting the letter and i was told they need to do my back ground check first. but i dont know how long does it take? and they said its in qeue it means background check is done?

Have you worked in other countries besides your home country? Do you work for your city's police service or your country's military service? That slows down the background check quote a bit.

By the way, my actual field would be writing I am actually planning to start sending out a few poems, if not all, to see if I can publish some or all of them (they're in English). And in a few months or years, the novels! I need to translate the two I've written into English so I can send them out to places in Canada or the U.S, and that will take some time, but I will get there. Not to mention the many, many stories ahead that have yet to be written by me, and which are only alive in my mind, for now.

Is your VO Manila as well? By any chance are you moving to Manitoba too? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. The one province that seems to be getting tons of COPR and PPR these past couple of weeks is Quebec.

I am sponsoring my wife. I live in BC, so my wife will be moving there first. Should she not be able to find gainful employment we will consider alternative provinces including Manitoba, as there is a large Filipino population in Winnipeg.

Start reaching out to smaller local publishing companies. Even if you have nothing ready at the moment, it never hurts to establish connections. I'm in journalism but I've dealt with smaller book publishers here in BC.

Well, if you are already settled in BC I'm sure she'll be able to find something so you don't have to uproot yourself. Plus the mountains are lovely. I lived there for 5 years, I don't regret moving to MB at all, but I do miss the mountains. There are settlement services for landed immigrants to help them find work, so if she has a hard time at first, hopefully they would be able to help her out.

You didn't miss much in Nanaimo to be honest. That said, it's got a beautiful boardwalk downtown but the downtown its self has gotten worse in the last little while. Crime, drugs, sad.

@amglobal my husband just applied for some pre arrival services and they have been pretty good about responding and providing resources. We just started using it so I can’t comment on the outcome yet. Will keep everyone posted!
