Invitation to Pre-arrival services

Most of our pre-arrival services clients get PPR between one week and one month after getting the letter inviting them to avail of our services. And then they receive a visa with a specific validity (usually 6 months), so at that moment they decide when to land. Some leave immediately after getting the visa, some take a few months to sell their house or car, quit at work, etc.

Is that the case for your clients with Manila as their VO? I've read on here that Manila tends to issue their pre-arrival letters earlier than most VOs, but I have no idea. I didn't even know about the pre-arrival letter or what it meant overall until after I got it on Feb. 02.

@devilsofnj - I think permafrost gave us a general idea of what happens for her clients. There is a rough sample of about 500 cases (which was mentioned in another thread - can't remember it now)

What is your timeline @devilsofnj ?

We have clients in many countries - I've never counted how many, lol. But yes, it does include clients whose VO is in Manila. It may be the case that they get the pre-arrival services letter earlier than other regions, but some of them have contacted us to let us know they think they have been waiting for a surprisingly long time, much like people in this thread, so I assume it's just the same case.

Is your VO Manila as well? By any chance are you moving to Manitoba too? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. The one province that seems to be getting tons of COPR and PPR these past couple of weeks is Quebec.

Hi there! I contacted the people you suggested, although I had a bit of a bad experience. The guy who contacted me (called me from Vancouver to my cell phone) was kind of nice, but told me that I wouldn't get a job as a QA technician in Canada because the certifications I got from the program I took online (another pre-arrival service) wouldn't be enough. He told me to figure out what qualifications and studies I would need for the job. He gave me very basic info that I already had, but that was fine because it's their job. But I found it very discouraging that he straight up told me I wouldn't be able to get a job like that in Canada. And... today I got an email from the only place that I've applied to for a position as a QA technician and they want to schedule a phone interview with me! The place is called Chef's Plate and it looks like an amazing place to work at. Hopefully the interview will go well although I don't know what will happen since I had to give them my Skype id, since I don't have a phone in Canada yet nor I am in Canada. I am hoping to get my passport this week or the next, and I'll get the first flight available to Canada :)

I'm so sorry to hear you had such a negative experience! Was that SUCCESS? I'll talk to my manager, this comes as a big surprise but obviously is not what I would expect. At our pre-arrival centre we usually do some thorough research about the requirements for a specific field, we don't just tell people to go do their own research. I have a client who is also doing QA and I sent her some useful stuff last week.

In any case, congrats on your job interview!! Good luck!!

I agree - I used to work at a university and we would regularily send newly arrived students to SUCCESS for job search help. They are a wonderful centre in Vancouver - very helpful. My husband is also contacting them to get some information.

@permafrost_can - I feel like I ask you a million questions LOL! Thank you for being so patient and helpful!

I was wondering what you think of prepcan - we just registerred with them too. Is that helpful to get some job search help too? I wish we were moving to Manitoba! I would come visit you :)

I'm glad to hear your students also went to SUCCESS! Maybe she got a new or inexperienced facilitator. And you can still visit Manitoba even if you aren't settling here :) if you do, I'll show you around!

We also have a partnership with PrepCan. It is a recent partnership, so I don't have tons of feedback, but they seem very responsive and energetic, which we appreciate. Their program is very structured, it's provided at a national level so I'm curious about how they help out for specific job markets in each city.

Yes it was SUCCESS. It put me down for the whole day yesterday because I truly thought I could get a QA job and he just told me that I wouldn't be able to in Canada, with the certifications I had gotten. But the email today got me hyped up and excited and it gave me confidence that I can get that kind of job. I mean, I've only applied for one job, and got an interview already (to be scheduled). It did come as a surprise to me, because I specifically told him I had been a QA Analyst here for a year, although I'm realistic and know I wouldn't get a QA Analyst position in Canada just yet. He kept telling me to search for the qualifications needed, and the requirements and all that. But I don't think this would reflect their work, it was just this person who wasn't paying attention to what I was telling him. In any case, I hope with all my might I can get this job, and if I can get it even before arriving, that would be a marvelous and huge blessing.
