I think the same.. doesnt make any sense for me too.
That's not what I understood. You submit your request online. And once they receive your fingerprint card with the online confirmation number, they estimate 48 hours to process your request, in the order it was received. I went through the whole link, all that we filled in the personal particulars form is online now, including the payment part. You have option to get a hard copy of your result too to a given mailing address.

This does seem to simplify things, except that you still need to mail/express your fingerprint card.

So that means they need to have a separate group of workers just specifically open the eDO mails? Are we sure about that? Or they just put back to the end of the current line?

Guys, here is how the new system works.

You fill an online application and make a payment. Right after the payment you will receive a confirmation email with you unique ID and the payment verification code. You print that email and send it along with your fingerprint card. Within 48 hours of the receipt of your package, you should be able to view your pcc online. If you select the mailing option with your application (optional), you will also receive a hard copy in the mail, in addition to the electronic pcc. So the 14-16 weeks wait time has been reduced to 48 hours.

P.S. They expect this 48 hour timeline to go up to 1-2 weeks in the future.

Hope it helps!

You would always have to mail the fingerprint card. The wait time has been reduced significantly. Also, the application and payment is electronic now, compared to the old process.

The 48 hour timeline starts from the day they receive your fingerprint cards. Once you make the payment online take a print of the confirmation letter and send it with the fingerprints.

The mailing address for the eDO has a line saying ATTN: Electronic Summary Check, which indicates that those mail is being opened by a separate dept/entity/personnel. And I have verified it over the phone too.

can I put two applicants' finger print cards in the same envelope and label two confirmation numbers on the envelope?

I have the paper application in progress. I applied in eDO as well. Just dispatched the fingerprints. :) Lets see how that goes. (Sent two envelopes separately for me and my spouse, just to avoid confusion)
